This place treats customers like a cheap scam would. The food was mostly tasteless and not fresh. When I went there for crab legs and lobsters on the weekend, I discovered that their crab legs are really small, sickly-looking, cold, and stale. The cold lobster claws had almost spoiled meat inside that also didn't smell right. The hot lobster meat, which had appeared to be the most presentable dish there, actually tasted like nothing other than a distasteful mix of chlorine and cheap soy sauce. Everything else at this buffet tasted severely subpar and among the worst, even when compared with other stereotypical "Chinese Buffets" found in this greater part of NY/PA. Even the drinks tasted watered-down.
Furthermore, you'll find that the plates here are very small when compared with other buffets of the kind. Yet, the owner/manager was very nosy and rude when he finger-pointed at my three plates on the table, from afar, and repeatedly yelled at me: "This is not good! Take only one plate at a time!" He continued to yell that the amount I took on their pitifully small plates would not leave enough for others, even though I was the only customer in that restaurant at the time, since I was the first to arrive and remained the only customer for another 20 minutes before anyone else showed up. Despite the fact that there were no signs anywhere telling customers that they can only take one plate at a time at this "buffet", and no policy for charging extra against anyone who does not finish everything on their plates, he still threatened to charge me more than their advertised price for the meal if I didn't finish everything on my plates, BEFORE I even started eating. Talk about getting a nasty atmosphere for a meal here from the start! This owner doesn't even have the decency or integrity to be honest about the "buffet" and the price that he advertised.
The owner's attitude probably rubs a lot of the staff the wrong way too, here. Most of the staff appeared depressed, without ever cracking a smile even once for anyone the whole time when I was observing, even though the time was the start of the day. The service, as one might expect as a result, was not very attentive. But I felt sorry for them, because they probably had no say in the culture and climate that was established by this owner, who obviously only cares about making a quick buck with cheap ingredients and shoddy quality. He obviously doesn't give a damn about what customer service or honesty in advertisement means. He apparently doesn't care that most of the items at his "Chinese Buffet" are a far cry from anything remotely "Chinese", and taste the worst even among the "Chinese Buffets" of its type.
It is against this backdrop of my overall experience at this buffet that I'm wondering if the owner's son also lied about the drinks being "included" in the price of the meal in the beginning, because that wasn't true when the check came. But at the time, I chalked it up to the son's misunderstanding because he's only a small kid. But then again, the owner probably takes advantage of the fact that he's a little kid, which was why it was this little kid who had greeted me, led me to my seat, and took the order for my drinks.
Overall, this was absolutely the worst "Chinese Buffet" I've ever visited in the greater NY/PA...
Read moreI have heard all good things about this place and usually I go more towards lunch time and the food i remember being better around that time. Tonight I went with my husband, step-son, and my step-son's girlfriend, and the food was semi-warm some it close to cold. they also did not have alot of great food options as far as dinner. Also, their rice crispy treats were hard as a rock, you could tell alot of their food had been out for awhile. That's not the worst of it. I spent about $52.00 there because of course we're going to pay for our son and his girlfriend. We had a women come over to us twice to take our plates, which is fine, but we tipped her a dollar on top of the 52-something dollars we spent there and she had the nerve to say "does that say $1.00?" when she came over to take our card which is weird because normally they don't take them at the table they wait until you get up and you're done and you go to the desk by the door on your way out. We thought she was just confused because of how my husband wrote it, we said "yeah." and as soon as we said that, she whipped the paper away and audibly said "pshh!" and walked away shaking her head all the way down the isle and unt she turned the corner to cash our card out. REALLY?? she never refilled our drinks, it's not like she checked on us and asked us how our food was, she only came over one or two times, it's a buffet and she acts like she should of got a $15.00 tip ON TOP of old and cold food. very rude she was. She also acted like she has never seen a 36 weeks pregnant women because when I stood up to leave (and she was sitting down mind you doing nothing) she stared at me HARD the whoooole way out like I had three heads. I'll be taking my son and his girlfriend somewhere else...
Read moreWe have been to the Fortune Buffet several times for lunch and dinner, and generally speaking were happy with the service and selection they offered...until our last visit today.
When they bring you the check, in the past you had the opportunity of paying up at the counter when you were leaving. They now bring you the check and then come back to the table expecting you to pay; this normally would not be a big deal and is the norm at other restaurants. After giving the girl our credit card to process, she returned with the card and receipt and hovers right over you at the table to see if / how much of a tip you give (this is the 2nd consecutive visit where this occurred). This makes it very awkward and uncomfortable for the customer when they are right next to you watching how much of a tip you allocate on the receipt for them. After figuring out the tip and signing the receipt, the girl made a smirk and walked away shaking her head in disappointment, completely unprofessional.
You feel pressured into leaving a tip (when all they do is take away your plates and bring you your drink) or leaving a tip that is higher than you might have otherwise without feeling pressured. Won't return to this buffet until this...
