La Casa Del Tamal — Restaurant in Athens

FINALLY got to try this place on a recent trip to Athens. My husband is a tamale fiend and said these were some of the best he’d ever eaten. They were so moist and fresh, with generous filling. The jalapeno and cheese ones were especially delicious. Both homemade salsas were super tasty as well.

I tried the breakfast torta with chorizo and eggs - it was HUGE for only $8!! Love how the chorizo was scrambled with the eggs, and all of the toppings went so well together.

Prices are very reasonable, service is super friendly (both ladies who helped us spoke perfect English), and the portions are hearty. The dining area is small and humble but very clean...

One of the best meals we’ve had since moving to the area six years ago. Huge, fresh, amazingly flavorful and delicious breakfast burritos. We had beans, potatoes, eggs, and cheese, and to add to all of the goodness, I had steak, and my husband had chorizo. We are Texans, so we take Mexican food seriously, and this will be a go-to place (and meal) for us now! Super affordable, helpful and kind staff, and a great assortment of sodas and juices. Went to Casa del Tamal today on 1/11, around lunch time. The place was packed. We ordered their Torta's (Cubana, Chorizo & Mexicana Tortas), Chicken & Steak Empanadas, and Tamales. They were sold out of tamales unfortunely, but they had a couple left and they gave them to us for free to try (Strawberry & Cheese/Jalapeno) - wow, they were delicious! When we got home, we tried all of our food and wow - delicious! 5/5, highly recommend.
