After reading through some of the previous reviews I am amazed that there are any negative points at all - but I guess one can not please all of the people all of the time. My husband and I ate here for the first time last night and we were very pleasantly surprised! Athens is less than diverse when it comes to eating establishments and decent food. The thought of a new seafood restaurant was very appealing so we thought we would give it a try. We were seated immediately and a charming young lady, Adora, took our drink order right away. She gave us time to look over the menu while she went off to get the drinks. From the appetizer, a dozen fresh and delicious oysters on the half shell (with REAL horseradish, not some mayonnaise filled sauce), to the salad, which again, was fresh and crisp with a diverse mix of various lettuces and baby spinach leaves and a smattering of red cabbage and a tomato slice with a slight sprinkling of cheese. It was not covered in stale croutons, to hide the limp lettuce, like so many places insist on. As we were finishing our salads, with perfect timing, Adora brought out our entrees. My husband had the grilled salmon with Cajun rice. Now I have never been a fan of salmon unless it is wafer thin and smoked but my husband insisted I have a taste... Oh my goodness! It was delicious, flavorful and melted in my mouth! The buttery sauce was excellent! I chose the grilled shrimp and scallops with mashed potatoes. I didn't expect much as mashed potatoes are, well, mashed potatoes. Was I ever wrong. No potato flakes here. Real, peeled, cooked and mashed potatoes done with butter and cream by the taste of them. Wonderful. The steamed vegetables were cooked to perfection. Not mushy and not raw. Just the perfect consistency and flavor. The shrimp (which really were JUMBO) and the scallops were awesome! Perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Definitely on par with the restaurants of Marseilles, France and Syracuse, Sicily. I don't know where their chef trained but he or she is "on point!" Adora was the perfect server. She was not intrusive or hovering but she was obviously keeping an eye on our table as she flitted from side to side looking after her customers. When she saw our drinks getting low, she was right there with a refill. If we asked for anything, it instantly appeared. I noticed in another review that someone complained that there was no hot sauce on the table. Personally I don't want my table junked up with a lot of condiments so this didn't bother me. When I asked for hot sauce Adora had it on the table in seconds. As we were settling our bill, she even asked my husband if he was a Veteran ( he was wearing his Marine Corps U.S. Embassy shirt) and took the ticket back so that she could adjust it with a Military discount! D & L Seafood Grill is a marvelous and much needed addition to Athens and I wish a long and prosperous life to this delicious family restaurant! If I could give them a 10 star review I...
Read moreIt’s the most wonderful time of the year, it’s cold & it’s convenient for the woman who dread cooking tonight!!! So… my #1 restaurant just caused me a Headache!!! I have eaten at this restaurant practically 1-2 times a week for @ least 2 yrs now! Here lately I’ve encountered unusual/unpleasant complications to have Upper Management to be very inconsiderate towards my patriotism!!! I’m disappointed tonight because my usual is Red Fish Seafood Dinner which includes fish, shrimp, scallops, two sides & salad!!! I also most times add to my $27.25 entree getting 4 Spring Rolls & Crab Claws as appetizers most times totaling approximately $50! My previous experience I asked that my fish be fried instead of grilled to go, only to get home the inconsiderate Cook put a Fried Fish Fillet in a Togo box with Broccoli & Baked Potato to get home to a Wet fillet from Broccoli juices!!! Call to inform and are told it’s nothing they can do!!! Wow This time I was ordering the same the last two encounters was Grilled to prevent a disappointment to get home tonight and something is in my plate!!! Looks like a feather/lent!!! How??? Call back I’m told to bring everything back tomorrow!!! So, management definitely need to step there Customer Service Skills up to keep my business!!! Rudeness isn’t polite or necessary when you are a business owner, my fear is getting ill from just eating requiring me to File suit for some reason & how that would be handled!!! I have never posted a review however tonight was necessary it’s too close to Christmas for the Grinch to be Targeting innocent Customers with unappreciative, inappropriate, behavior!!! I’m not happy with my experience!!! I should’ve walked away after reading a sign inside that says they will not Refund or Remake any Steak or...
Read moreSunday, 7/72919, not busy, seated promptly, water service and order taker was prompt. We love shrimp and know that it’s hard to mess up fried shrimp unless you overcook it. We ordered the 15 Butterfly Shrimp plate, which was around $16 ......and specifically asked to please not overcook them. The order came in about 15 minutes. The shrimp were kinda between medium and large size and they were overcooked. They were tough, rubbery. We decided to try to eat them. The waitress came by and asked if they were ok. Hating to complain, we hesitantly said they were overcooked. She offered to cook us some more. Since we had specifically asked that they not be over cooked, we said ok. In 10 minutes, we got more shrimp, they were browner than the first order. Kinda puzzled, I said, these are browner, and tasted one....... The lady said, we Cooked these longer !!! After we tried them, we told her, the first ones were overcooked, and these are MORE overcooked!! She said “yes, we cooked these 3 1/2 minutes, and the other ones 2 1/2 minutes. 😂 😂😂. She then tried to explain how they to make sure to cook them done. We second order was more rubbery and overcooked than the first. We felt like we were speaking different languages although she spoke perfect English. The shrimp in both orders were rubbery and all the juiciness and goodness were cooked out of them! D & L needs some seafood cooking lessons! The fastest way to ruin good fish or shrimp is to overcook it! The menu is extensive, the prices are ok if the food was good; but, too high to get food we could barely eat and...
