Maddi Mae’s Cafe — Restaurant in Athens

This local Athenian eatery has a wide variety of menu items to satisfy everyone in the family. My personal favorites are the Club on toasted bread or the Tuna on wheat, while my husband prefers the Black Forest Ham. The portion sizes are large enough that I often take half my sandwich home for later. The sides are super satisfying as well, whether you choose a zesty pasta salad, fruit cup or yum-tastic chips (Personally I like the jalapeño where my husband always grabs a bag of Sun Chips)

If you haven't tried the Dole Whip Float, GO NOW! It is so so tasty and refreshing. There are a so many options of the ice cream variety from hand-dipped Mayfield cones (waffle or sugar cones) to soft serve. I just tried the pumpkin spice soft-serve and it was amazing! After all not all days in the south are made for coffee and pumpkin spice ice cream hits all the right feels for celebrating autumn without breaking into a hot beverage induced sweat.

Although I'm an Athens native, I've only been into this long-standing establishment a couple times unfortunately. I don't recall any complaints from before and my most recent visit was great. I wanted to try my favorite beverage, a milkshake, because they somewhat recently started peddling ice cream and I'm always ready to try a shake from a new place. The whole ice cream service is new to Maddi Mae's and I'm sure since they offer a lot more than milkshakes that there is a learning curve with the new equipment, recipes and additional SKUs in the computer system. I could see that the young lady was struggling a little bit with all the new processes and whatnot, but another lady came to help as soon as she could. The less experienced girl carried herself well and knew who to ask when she had a question. The milkshake was prepared in a very timely manner considering all of the above and tasted amazing. They accommodated my special request of half Cookie Batter and half Nutella in a vanilla base and oh mylanta was it delicious. Perhaps it's the only place in TN where you can get such a flavor combination. I could see that both of these ladies were putting forth the effort and teamwork needed to get the job done. This place has the BEST Banana split ive ever ate in my entire 30yrs of life & guess how much it costed me.... .45cents +tax which only made it .50cents!!! Thts right u heard me correctly!!! For a limited time they r promoting for new 1st time customers y'all can get any ice cream u chose from their whole entire menu & I mean ANYTHING AT ALL U CHOSE FROM THEIR MENU U WNT (Ice cream on my) and any &,all toppings r free!!!
