McMinn County Living Heritage Museum — Attraction in Athens

We had a blast at this museum. What a gem! There are just so many cool artifacts from the past to appreciate. I love that there are no barriers between the visitors and the artifacts, so you could get up close and personal. Some of these items are over a hundred years old and are in amazing shape! The museum is well maintained and the staff are super helpful. We went on a weekday right after it opened, and we got to have the museum to ourselves! This is a great little museum, full of interesting displays that appeal to both kids and grown-ups, plus some fun play areas and hands-on activities. It’s full of local history, but it’s also a fascinating look at rural and small-town America throughout history - the full-size models, including a general store and a doctor’s office, are fantastic. This museum is fantastic! There are so many wonderful pieces and exhibits. They offer new exhibits every few months and have a working trade show in the fall.

It is a wonderful place to learn about local history as well as general Tennessee history.

The ladies who work there are very kind, helpful, and informative. The admission is only $5 per person and worth every penny! I highly recommend making a part of a day trip to the Athens...
