Well, if you read the past reviews, I do not know anyone working at the bar and that is not the reason I'm leaving this great review!
My family and I were in Hocking Hills for the weekend and drove into Athens for lunch. We found some street parking and then nearly every place we had considered to eat was completely booked until later that evening (we went around lunchtime). So we Googled some nearby places. We had never heard of North End and we were so happy this is where we ended up.
Smaller place, bar setting (so if that's not your thing, be mindful of that) and we found a table in the back. Evelyn was our server and she was incredible, thoughtful, expedient, and thorough. It took her a few minutes to notice us but she was just so welcoming and apologized for the wait even though it wasn't very long.
We ordered the trio and nachos to start. First, the chips are freaking amazing. Crunchy - just how a nacho chip should be. That way when they're loaded up they don't get all flimsy! The guac was incredible and none of us could stop talking about the salsa (medium was perfect, just a lil bit of heat).
Our drinks? Stellar. Ooooooo that strawberry margarita! And the one named after something George Clooney did. Must trys.
The cauliflower is out of this world. I ordered a bowl and added black beans and it was so tasty. I cannot have dairy and we had double checked to make sure it didn't have cheese on the bowl. When we got our food there was indeed cheese on it but Evelyn was fast to correct and so was the kitchen. Excellent service all around! :)
Check it out if you want some good drinks, yummy eats, and a more relaxed/bar...
Read moreNeeds to reevaluate staff. Slow service, rude servers.
Edit: I feel I should elaborate. As my party was exiting the bar after 2 hours of dining, one of the waitresses walked out and approached us on the sidewalk. She accused us of, "laughing in one of the servers faces", and that because of that, we "shouldn't return tonight". I was a little shocked, and asked what she was talking about. She then said that none of our table had tipped, which they didn't appreciate. The friends I was with told her that they had in fact tipped, to which she replied "oh, maybe that was a different table".
It was after being falsely accused of rude behavior and falsely shamed for mistreating wait staff, that I admitted to her that I was the sole party member who didn't tip on my $13 bill, because the only times we were served in two hours was when I got up to ask a passing server if we could place a drink order, and again when I had to get up 30 minutes after being ignored to ask for our checks. She then stormed off back up the steps into the bar, in a huff.
The food is ok, the margaritas are a tad overpriced, but the biggest issue is the incompetent and incredibly rude staff. I'll take slow service, but I won't accept being accused of rude behavior for no reason. I doubt ill be returning, as Casa Nueva provides better food, better drinks, and larger portions for the same price a block away, and has...
Read moreI’m rating this place based on their food options. I didn’t have any alcohol which is probably why most people go.
It was a really pleasant and lively place to visit so it is definitely a good option if you’re going to just enjoy the area and get some drinks, however, the food was not very good and way too small of portions!
Surprisingly, this place serves mostly all mexican food. My table ordered some of the street tacos and were not impressed at all. The best part about the tacos was the cilantro and onions. The barbacoa tasted mostly like american pulled pork barbecue. Also, it is very important that you see the part on the menu that says that corn tortillas are available upon request. Fortunately, someone at my table saw that but unfortunately, we forgot to request them when ordering. Street tacos are traditionally served on corn tortillas and are so much better this way. We also ordered tortilla chips and salsa and the salsa definitely tasted like it was store bought and the...
