If you're looking for delicious soul food in Atlanta this is the best I've had in my 13 yrs here! This is the small restaurant pumping out incredibly photogenic, soul healing, decadent meals every hour they're open.
One of the hardest working women I have ever seen in the restaurant industry was taking orders via phone, serving the multiple patrons inside, and ringing up the food simultaneously!
I went for the turkey wings and rice, Mac, and collards. My girl had the Tilapia, cabbage, and carrot souffle.
Everything was stunning! There was a hulking hunk of cornbread on top of this monster plate with two turkey wings looming over the sides.
Mac and cheese was crispy baked on top with a perfect ratio of cheese and macaroni. The collards were savory and sweet and every bite was better than the last. I hit the turkey wings with a little bit of hot sauce and went to town.
I could not finish even half this plate in two sittings! I ate till I almost hurt myself!
The tilapia was fried to order and took around 10 minutes. Absolutely worth it! The fry was perfect and very well seasoned. The cabbage was savory and great. The carrot souffle we actually got as a replacement as they were out of candied yams.
This carrot souffle affected me emotionally. It's an understatement to call it amazing. back when the Piccadilly's on Howell Mill road was still there, I made friends with the chef there. My favorite dish in the entire restaurant even beyond dessert was the carrot souffle. I would always make sure to go Tuesday when that particular chef told me she would be making that side. As a broke college student that was one of my few weekly treats to keep morale up and help me complete my bachelor's degree.
This carrot souffle is what that chef was trying to emulate. It tastes great in a way that I can't describe fully with words. You will have to come to Big Daddy's to try it yourself.
This post might seem like a gross exaggeration but no part of it is. This is hands-down the best soul food I've had in this entire city and you should try it too. They've apparently been a staple since the 1990s and I've been missing out the entire...
Read moreI’m so sorry to have to write this but .. I didn’t enjoy anything about this food. I should’ve known when I walked in and saw nothing but older ppl waiting and ordering here. The last time this happened to me I found out real quick why this was the demographic.. the food is tasteless, chew-less… it’s giving GERIATRIC.
I wanted to order the chicken first but I saw the color and consistency of the “gravy” and decided against it. I knew where that was headed so I ordered the meatloaf and that was my first mistake. That was not meatloaf that was freaking DOG FOOD with meatloaf sauce slapped on top of it. It had no density. It literally was slop. Same exact consistency and taste as canned dog food and I’m so serious. That was crazy. I didn’t need any teeth for the food. I gave it to my dog and she ate it up like the dog food it was. I don’t even know what kind of meat that was. Had to be mushrooms cuz that was not ground nothing!!
I also ordered the broccoli casserole and it needed seasoning. Needed cheese. Needed more firm rice. I kept biting it looking for a piece of flavor. No.
The mashed potatoes were tolerable. They used that see through gravy that was on the chicken. Tasteless too but I’m thankful for that cuz imagine eating the cheap instant mashed potatoes with clear nasty slime.
I added cabbage and that’s the only thing that was decent. They weren’t seasoned well but just enough. They were extremely soft. Once again, you don’t need teeth to enjoy this food. But me & my dog enjoyed those.
The cornbread was cold and not memorable.
All in all, if you’ve got a long list of health conditions and need food easy on the stomach, flavor and teeth this is the spot for you. As for me, I can’t even think to step foot back into this place until I am of age. & that’s just my honest truth.
Picture taken after I ate some of the food, cuz I just couldn’t believe this junk at all but beware this is how the meatloaf was...
Read moreAs the food at this establishment, is a delight; the services provided by one of the staff members is deplorable, especially one who works on the front line and stands as the representative for the business. I have frequented the establishment on Cascade numerous times, and find that my every experience, when "Iris," is present leaves me feeling disappointed and annoyed. When she is providing a service, she is rude, inconsiderate, and redirects customers to her written note that makes mention of what is not available' which often indicate and allude to her saying you can't read! or incapable of being able to do so. . She rushes customers, she's short in dialogue, and she purposely does things to ignite fury in the customer. If you ask for a particular condiment, she purposely provide one of which you ask, and outwardly show frustration when you ask for more. There have been many instances, where I have ordered a sweet tea/ lemonade mix with no ice because in previous times, she failed to fill the cup. Therefore, I have since asked for no ice, and I have learned that not only did she fail to fill the cup, but that she was intentionally doing so (that information provided by a staff member whom I won't mention by name). And as I have been planning to write this review, I made time today because it is necessary to know where you get quality food, yet piss poor performance. I have always believed that you should provide service with a smile. Unfortunately, I believe that Iris is incapable of smiling or being kind. And for the record, a customer doesn't care how much you know until they know how much you care. So, when I pull up and see that Miss. Iris is behind the counter, no matter how hungry I...
