This was our first visit to Hotto Hotto Ramen, and unfortunately, it was a major disappointment—especially after spending over $400.
When we arrived, there were only two other customers finishing up. We seated ourselves and looked over the menu on our phones. It took about 10 minutes before anyone came to take our initial order. We started with one round of drinks and a few appetizers. Only two staff members appeared to be working the floor, and it quickly became clear they were stretched thin.
The wait for our appetizers was so long that we ended up ordering another round of drinks. The drinks were decent, but the timing was awful. One drink in particular—the hot soju—took over an hour to arrive. We had to ask about it twice before it finally came out, suggesting it was probably forgotten.
Our appetizers finally arrived about 20 minutes later. They were tasty, but we had already finished both rounds of drinks by then. After we finished eating, no one checked on us for another 10 minutes. When we asked to place our entrée orders, we were told only the bartender could input food orders. So, one person was managing the entire front of house while the other handled what looked like online orders. At that point, we were the only dine-in customers and still felt completely overlooked. Even asking for napkins was a chore—we were given just three for a table of five.
When the ramen finally arrived—well over an hour after we sat down—it didn’t make up for anything. I ordered the Hotto Tonkotsu Ramen, and it was completely underwhelming. The broth was bland, the noodles were soggy, and the pork belly—while the only flavorful part—was overcooked. The presentation looked nice, but that didn’t help the taste.
Still holding out hope for something redeeming, I decided to order the Tiramisu Cup for dessert. According to the menu, it was described as: “A luxurious Italian coffee dessert, made with layers of ladyfinger biscuits soaked in espresso coffee and a rich cream made of mascarpone cheese, sugar, and eggs and finished with Dutch cocoa.” What I got was a cold, frozen cup handed to me without a spoon. Nothing like the picture, and definitely not luxurious. The texture was icy, the flavor was off, and honestly, it was worse than the bland ramen. I get that this is a ramen shop, but if you’re going to put a detailed description like that on the menu, the product should at least be edible.
Even after we finished dessert, we still had to ask again about the hot soju—and after yet another long wait, it finally came, barely enough for four and a half shots.
For the amount of money we spent, this was a seriously disappointing experience from start to finish. Poor service, long waits, bland food, and a frozen dessert with no spoon. I won’t be returning, and I definitely wouldn’t recommend Hotto...
Read moreWe are in town for the Braves Game and decided we wanted a little Ramen for full of flavor that made everyone at my table dinner. When right in front of the restaurant. You have a open bar and several people enjoying them outside and inside. The wait was non-existent with the seat yourself convenience provided. We were enthusiastically greeted by our server, who I regrettably didn’t get her name. We ordered the veggie fried rice and wontons to start. The rice was full of fresh veggies and the taste was perfect for even our pickiest of three children that joined us for the evening. My guy ordered a beer and by the time the gentleman walked to the bar and returned immediately with the beer, the wontons disappeared! I even said, “I could eat those for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.” We ordered the Veggie Ramen with shrimp, Street Ramen, Spicy Shredded Ribeye Dry Ramen, and pork belly Ramen. I tasted everyone’s food and it was incredible and each individually crafted to make your taste buds get excited for the next bite. I will say though, the chef’s recipe for ribeye ramen was perfectly seasoned and the taste of cucumber salad that was unexpectedly paired with the savory meat in a way that makes your palette crave it with each bite. As long as I’ve been with the man, he’s never eaten cucumbers…I insisted he try it as the chef intended it and his eyes rolled back in his head with enjoyment. For dessert we got one of their chocolate cakes, lemon cakes, and Matcha tea cheesecake. I still cannot decide which I like better. The chocolate and matcha are served with a whipped mascarpone cheese that is distinctive of the luscious flavor of the cheese but the fluffy smooth texture that is something so unique it’s texture is it’s own. The Lemon is like a cloud of fresh lemon cream in between thin vanilla like cake layers. It has a smooth layer of cream that is smooth like fresh churned butter. It is topped with white chocolate shavings that gives a hint of warmth to the otherwise strong flavors; the cake is balanced by these flavors so well that your appetite craves every flavor equally. Each ingredient is perfectly paired, perfectly fresh, and perfectly placed on each dish to provide your senses with an experience that is absolutely satisfying. If you cannot tell, I would highly recommend this beautiful spot. I cannot wait to return on my next trip to town, and I will absolutely make a special trip (over 2 hours) to come enjoy this meal with my foodie family! If I could give this place a 12, I would without hesitation.
Thank you Chef! You’re a true gem to the...
Read moreI absolutely adore this place to the extent that when I was buying my house I was trying to stay within a 20-30 minute radius. I've never left a review on any place.
I try to visit at least once bi-monthly and I've made it a decent ways through the menu: Hot Mess Fries, Shrimp Lollipops, Mussels, Pot Stickers and the BBQ Char Siu are all that's left (outside of the desserts but we'll get to that at the end). May I recommend some sort of appetizer platter? Totally not selfishly wanting to make trying the rest easier.
I love the absolute dietary variety when it comes to the menu, the GF and Vegan options are nonsensically delicious; however, there is a level of variety that can feel a tad diminishing. For example, the salmon fried rice was good but it was blown out of the water by every single ramen option on the menu and a good chunk of the appetizers.
My favorites have been spicy steamed dumplings, the spicy fried chicken karaage (+ the delicious asian sesame slaw), and the brothless spicy ribeye ramen (+ the delicious cucumber salad).
I have had one alcoholic drink in my years visiting this place and it was the strongest drink I've ever had (This should be a plus for those of you that like to drink!); the shock on the servers face when my family asked for less alcohol in their drinks will humor me for years to come. Like please buy a drink here in my honor because I'm too much of a lightweight; the passion fruit fizz mocktail is much more my speed and pretty delicious. I just want more of it ;~;
I can admit that there's likely a level of quality control that could benefit this place, I feel like I've had 3 different forms of the spicy karaage during my visits and 3 different heat levels of the spicy ribeye ramen (all still good to be fair). My most recent visit the karaage was lacking a bit of the slaw and the chicken seemed a bit overcooked (it was good, just no where near as good as it should have been). The person bringing the food to my table was kind enough to give me a plate (I didn't need) and it did have a spec on it v~v
All in all, pretty small things and relatively easy to remedy.
Okay the only dessert I've gotten the chance to try was the green tea matcha cheesecake and... it was okay; not as great as my taste-buds were craving sadly. I've never actually gotten to try the S'mores brownie or any other desserts ;~; I'm actually a little surprised that with all the food fusions they didn't try to make various taiyaki. Like red bean/cheesecake/custard taiyaki would fit so well at the...
