Little Rey has been a great addition to our neighborhood and we have frequently picked up to go orders and occasionally dined in. The past few (3+) orders have been sub par. In one, they mixed up some of the requested taco ingredients, once taco was almost too greasy to eat, and they gave us guacamole instead of cheese dip. Which was better than the previous order where they did give us cheese dip that was watered down -very runny and flavorless. The chicken has been very dry in our past several orders and tonight the chicken in my salad was so hard to chew that I just gave up and ate my plantains. LR also added some items to the vegetarian taco that aren’t even listed with no note about a substitution so we don’t even know what it was. The ingredients didn’t match a single taco on their menu. Very disappointing meal of a salad, 3 tacos and some plantains for $50 that we picked up so no delivery fees in there. I don’t know if there’s not enough oversight or what is going on but with my now third (or fourth) disappointing meal there, I think I’m done until I see people raving about the food again. I hope they figure out what’s wrong as it’s been a longtime staple for us and a shame to lose it as a dinner option.
————- This was my original review when they first opened: I walked over and met a friend for an early dinner. At 5:20 there were people there but not crowded and there were no lines. Our food came fast and was great as were the red grapefruit margaritas. They seemed to have plenty of staff on hand. By the time we left at 6:40, both lines were quite long and the place was very busy. I didn't notice people seeming annoyed by the wait but I'm guessing it was running better tonight than the first 2 days that people were complaining about in previous reviews. Great atmosphere. Perfect fit for our neighborhood. We already made...
Read moreThis laid-back Ford Fry restaurant serves some great tex-mex. The atmosphere is casual, and comfortable, plus it's quick and easy to order, eat, and leave. You wait in line to order, and they bring your food quickly to your seat. The Al Carbon chicken is roasted daily over coals with mesquite and hickory.
I always order the half chicken, which is enough for two people to share. It is so moist and flavorful. I absolutely love it. It comes with rice and beans, which are decent. Also, you can choose flour, or corn tortillas. For me, I go corn all the way.
I have never had the cheese dip, but the guacamole is delicious, and quite chunky. Of course they also have the salsa bar, and I love getting to flavor a variety of salsas.
There are also a variety of sides. In the past I have had the esquites, which is like an elote (mexican street corn) in a bowl. I found it to be way too cheesy. However, I would love to try some of the other sides.
The margaritas are also just okay. I think the grapefruit margarita is much better than the traditional. These are just pre-made and served from those swirling drink machines, so no classy cocktails here. There is also a window where you are supposed to be able to order additional margaritas, or soft serve without having to get back in line. Whenever I have been here there has never been anyone to order from at that window.
I would count off a star for a few of my dislikes, but the food is just that good, and the service is just that friendly!
Seems like I need to branch out and try a few more things on the menu. I have also heard that they have amazing brunch, so I feel like that will be added on as an update to this review soon. Can't wait to eat...
Read moreMeh, I'd like to preface this with the fact that I am from LA and maybe have a higher standard of what a taco should taste like. When I say meh, that is actually a compliment. 1st, taco crafting is an art, from the seasoning and marinating of the meat to the choosing of the toppings, and this place clearly failed art class. The meat was dry, greasy for no reason, not dripping in flavor, just dripping in grease, which also tasted old. I couldn't tell if the tortillas were toasted, or just stale. I had the pork, chicken carbon (which was their most popular) and the shrimp (or at least I think it was shrimp, actually when I reflect, not sure it really was) tacos. Blech, blech, and blech. The fries with queso, bacon, and jalapeños were decent. The guacamole wasn't bad, and the queso was pretty tasty (nothing spectacular, but it did the job). My partner had the wings and the chicken sandwich. The wings were flavorful, they had a smokey flavor with a picante kick. He ranked the sandwich after Popeyes and chick filA. I think it was better than that, but not by much, nice and crispy, but a little dry, and it came with a small container of what I think was supposed to be chili oil, but really just tasted like old grease, again grease for the sake of grease is not useful. They have apparently been out of steak for months, even though lots of other places have it. Their argument is quality, but if they think what they put out is quality, then I think we need to redefine what quality is. All in all guac and queso not bad, wings, fries and sandwich ok,...
