“Sun In My Belly” A neighborhood restaurant with great atmosphere and poor service with mandatory gratuity. • I have avoided leaving a review for some time here because I really do like this place and the food is always great (it would be nice to have a few more breakfast options) but there always seems to be an issue with the service and coffee department - that is if you are ordering anything other than a drip coffee. •My partner and I are regulars here and have been coming in here for a number of years. The issue always seems to remain the same. Generally seating goes pretty well even when busy. Once seated in our experience, we generally get someone to take our drink order and we generally order specialty coffees such as a cappuccino, Cortado, or Americano but then it will take a number of minutes to return to get food orders put in. After ordering breakfast and it being delivered to our table which comes out always in a timely manner and is as advertised, it is not until half way through eating our breakfast that we finally receive our coffee drinks. (Knowing how this happens we usually will just order drip coffee so we can have it before and during our breakfast) •To top it all off there is a mandatory gratuity (that should be mentioned to you at time of payment but is not) on the check which seems to be why they don’t really seem to care about being on top of their tables and keeping up with their orders in a timely way.
•This morning we decided to order take out. I called in the order. They said 10 to 15 minutes to be ready. Along with the breakfast items, we ordered an Americano with half n half and a Cortado. When I arrived I was greeted right away and the food was ready as expected and I assumed the the specialty coffees were as well. After paying for the tab and adding a 20% tip forgetting again that there was mandatory gratuity, then realizing before I walked out that there was no drinks, I asked the hostess and she explained to me that they were in the middle of making them. This was ok with me as they should only take a couple min max to make and they will be hot as well. Well I watch the hostess then walk back and tell the lady named Sam (shorter blonde hair) making the drinks about the order - handing her the tab as though the order had never been passed on to her. I watched Sam for approx 15 min standing back there making “a” drink and talking with other employees - making small talk. Thinking this whole time she was making my drink I then realize there was no drinks being put up for my order. I walked directly up to the counter and ask Sam if she had made my drinks and she said she had no drink order for me. Clearly she was distracted with her “more important small talk with other employees” and never remembered the hostess walking up and laying the receipt for the order on her station. She then looks down and sees the receipt and begins to make the drinks. She was not apologetic but yet made a smart remark to me saying “oh I’m sorry is there anything I can do to make your experience better” as if it was just the thing to say but that she definitely had no part in the drink issue. I would say by the time I finally got the drinks after I had got the breakfast order and waited, it was approx 20 min. I then walk out to the car to leave realizing that my americano probably didn’t have half n half in it like I ordered. Of course it didn’t. I walk back in and asked for half n half and to speak to the manager. Sam tried giving me every excuse of why she shouldn’t have put the half n half in and that normally customers do that etc etc. I didn’t want to argue with her, requesting a manger because she does not hold customer communication skills. The manager David came out immediately (a very nice young man) and spoke to me about all my concerns and was very apologetic and asked me what he could do to make it right. •To myself and my partner we both agree that this place is a great place to eat for atmosphere and food but the service would be helped if tipping was earned and if they had a...

Inside, we received a warm greeting and were seated in an ideal spot for a party of two. Our server promptly brought us water, and after a quick look at the drink menu, I went for a hot Chai Latte, while Wifey opted for a regular coffee. We needed a little more time to decide on our food. By the time our server came back, we figured out what we wanted. I chose the Omelet of the Day, a Chef's special with corn, red peppers, broccoli, and Parmesan cheese, along with a side of Honey Bacon and a Lavender Biscuit. Wifey went for one of her favorites, Shrimp and Grits, paired with a side of pork sausage. The food arrived surprisingly fast. I tasted my Omelet and it was a little bland. I added some salt and pepper to spruce it up. Also, I didn’t really taste any honey on the honey bacon or any lavender in the lavender biscuit. Wifey enjoyed her Shrimp and Grits, but commented that the grits were salty. Overall, the food was OK. Sun in my Belly is bigger than I expected with a bunch of indoor and outdoor seating, a nice cool casual vibe and ambiance. We asked for the check and one togo box, wifey had enough Shrimp and Grits to take home. When the check arrived it seemed high. After I inspected further, I saw the 20% gratuities were already added. Overall, we had a good experience. It is really a 3.5 rating, but the cool vibe and great service...

I’m so glad we chose Sun in My Belly to cater and coordinate our wedding. I wanted our reception to feel more like a dinner party, so of course, the food had to wow our guests. Their team definitely delivered!
The food was just delicious. I didn’t even see one of the passed appetizers because they were gobbled up so quickly. Then, when we walked around to our guests’ tables, all I saw were plates wiped clean.
During planning, Megan helped us find the perfect menu. She gave us plenty of options and worked with us to customize the courses based on our tastes, and she found ways to give all our guests a fantastic meal without us having to go overboard. From presentation to day-of service, they covered everything with professionalism and care.
Our coordinator, Hillary, was a rock star. We had a DIY wedding and she was very understanding of our vibe and patient when I wasn’t sure what I wanted. She checked in frequently and made me feel confident that everything was going to come together perfectly.
Throughout the process, Sun in my Belly’s team had excellent communication, and they were professional and reliable. You really felt like they were on your team. We had a few scary gusts of wind during our cocktail hour, and I saw at least five of their staff diving onto tables to rescue and rearrange bottles, signs and décor. I’m so grateful to them for really wanting to make our day great. It was the...
