Massively disappointed! I have been a member of the hospitality industry for far more years than I attended too. My experience ranges from food to entertainment. I have worked every position in the restaurant industry with the exception of server, bartender, manager, and owner. My life afforded me the opportunity to live in, not visit thirteen states from Washington to New Jersey. With the exception of the South, I have had countless opportunities to experience many cultures, and styles of cuisine.
After being inundated with television programming featuring Mr. Ramsey and his food preparation, most of America knows of him. To be honest I don't really have an opinion about him. But with his attitude I expect a certain level of consistency and experience. Recently I was invited to join a friend for dinner at Mr. Ramsey's location at Harrahs in Atlantic City. I took the time to preview the menu prior to arriving. While prices don't affect me, not because I have money, but because I respect effort and design, I felt the prices were for the most part out of line. An Oregon Pinot Noir while delicious and selected because I have lived in Oregon, is overpriced at $19.99 a glass, and only at that price to keep pace with all the other overpriced items. To expect excessive prices isn't unreasonable, but you better be on point on every aspect of that service. From the hostess to the towels in the bathroom.
As I have indicated restaurant food and service is something I have allot of experience in. I myself am a very accomplished cook both at home and at former restaurant employment. This being said my meal was a huge disappointment! I have been to a very average restaurant in the Allentown Pennsylvania area that crushed Mr. Ramsey's very overpriced average restaurant. The restaurant in the Allentown area had water options instead of water poured from a pitcher that may, or may not be filtered. The service was impeccable and the food was light years away from Mr. Ramsey's 1970s Beef Wellington. My last restaurant employment was a shack that had some of the best seafood on the Oregon coast. The owner supplied the restaurant with oysters, and crab harvested with in twenty minutes from the restaurant. Our crab was fresh every day because we had tanks on site. If we were ever low on a product the owner would go get more anyway he could, bottom line the consistency and quality delivered was the most important thing! Someone in the group ordered Mr. Ramsey's Burrata Cheese Salad. It did not contain the grilled grapes that was one of the reasons this selection was made. It also didn't contain the fennel seed and sherry broken vinaigrette, a balsamic vinegar appears to be a poor substitute. When asked about the missing grapes, the server returned with "we are out of grapes." At $26.99 not only should the grapes be on the plate, they better be pealed. I find it hard to believe that a Gordon Ramsey restaurant would run out of "grapes," there isn't a casino on the boardwalk that doesn't have grapes somewhere on the property. Better yet, Gordon Ramsey in my impression wouldn't hire an executive chef that couldn't keep grapes on hand. How about this, get in a car and go to a grocery store. I had a pathetic looking shrimp cocktail, each of the three shrimp costing over $10 each. While large and cooked well the bloody Mary cocktail sauce was weak, and generic. The cucumber garnish appeared old, and un-fresh. I selected the Pan Roasted Scottish Salmon hoping to detect a difference from the wild salmon I have enjoyed many times in the Pacific Northwest. I was delighted with the taste and found it to have a lighter flavor. It was perfectly cooked. The fish was resting on Saffron Rock Shrimp Risotto that was delicious but unbelievably heavy, three bits was enough. The herb green salad was missing in action, and replaced with old faded un...
Read moreI want to set up by saying the service was phenomenal. The atmosphere was great, but I was very disappointed. Haven eaten in many steakhouses Including Peter Luger mark joseph Del Frisco NYY steak Michael Jordan’s etc this did not compare And haven watched many of Gordon Ramsay’s television shows We were a bit disappointed and feel that if himself had sat down to our meal, he would have been too. I ordered my steak medium rate my husband medium eell came out medium well and my husband’s well done. I have never had this happen in any steakhouse. The staff was phenomenal. They made it right. They brought us out. New steaks right away but again my new steak for medium rare was still medium well. I was told to have a bright pink center. I had to order rare The service was phenomenal and they did everything they could. I have a picture of a potato we ordered the loaded baked potato, but my husband does not like stuff in his potato so we got it on the side the potato had an enormous rotten spot in it, which thank God we ordered it with accompaniment on the side. Haven’t eaten in many Gordon Ramsay restaurants I ordered the sticky toffee pudding, which was amazing, but I was disappointed to not have the vanilla ice cream on the side instead of having a block of frozen whipped cream and the caramel sauce was not cook down and very gritty and sugary. The toffee putting itself was amazing. I never really write that many negative reviews, but I was very disappointed and I think if Gordon himself with our meal, he would not have been pleased. He would, however, have definitely been pleased by the service provided because the service were all amazing. On another note, we got a shrimp cocktail for 30 something dollars. It was three shrimps. Yes they were big, but they were not cocktail. They were coated in some kind of Old bau or something when somebody order shrimp cocktail they like their shrimps at least we do Just plain boiled. Again, the service was phenomenal, but if you go to a steakhouse, you order medium rare you expect to get your steak, medium, rare not medium well well well done and that was a huge disappointment and a big no in our book. We are going to Caesar soon and hope Hell’s Kitchen is better. I also appreciate that they have Chilean sea bass which most fine steakhouses do I wanted to order the hslibut here as no Chilean Seabass as I despise Branzino But it was served with gnocchi or some kind padts which Being gluten-free, I cannot do that. Again, very disappointed hope hell’s kitchen is better. We do not mind paying for a dinner but ordering steak and a steakhouse that comes way over done is really unacceptable but a shout out to all the staff who...
Read moreAlexis and Roxy (our servers) were AMAZING. They really knew a lot and were very attentive. The food was WONDERFUL! Of course my wife and I couldn't eat everything because we ordered too much (everything sounded tasty, so we ended up ordering more than we could eat), but we took the rest to go and will enjoy it later.
My wife ordered the bone-in ribeye, I ordered the T-bone steak, and we shared the Japanese A5 Wagyu. For the app, we ordered the Kurobuta Porkbelly and had 2 orders of Ceasar salads... that was our mistake because they definitely tasted great, but we were pretty full by the time the steaks and sides came. We were only able to take a few bites of those delicious and amazing steaks. Wow! ALL 3 WERE GREAT!!! We started with the Japanese A5 and it truly melts in your mouth like butter. We left 2 pieces (which we took to go) in order to get to the other steaks. The other steaks were amazing as well (we ordered medium well). The crust of the steak was just WOW... The juiciest and tastiest steaks we've had in a VERY LONG TIME (and we visit steak houses often). By far, Gordon Ramsay Steak is top tier... I would list it in the top 2 of all the steak houses we've been to, and that's saying much since we've visited Michael Jordan's Steak House, Ruth's Chris, Frank's Steak House, Peter Luger's, etc.
IT IS A MUST... YOU HAVE TO EAT HERE IF YOU VISIT ATLANTIC CITY!!! We did order all 3 sauces for the steaks just to try them... but we tasted them once (not on the Japanese A5) and proceeded to eat the steaks without any of the sauces. That's how great the steaks were... THEY DID NOT NEED ANY SAUCE AT ALL! They were perfectly seasoned and had their own juices that carried the flavors on their own. SO DELICIOUS!!!
And for dessert, that Cheesecake was AMAZING! We had it to go and tasted a bit of it late last night. I NEED MORE IN MY LIFE LOL. Perfect balance of the cheesecake and fruit/topping.
10/10 EXPERIENCE OVERALL!!! Thank you for the wonderful service.
Other things we ordered: Loaded Baked Potato, Mac and Cheese, and Everything Fries (All which were tasty as well... as much as we could eat of it lol)
BTW, the bread and butter with black salt that they gave was so tasty... my wife and I told ourselves that we'd only eat a piece of it so we don't get full early on. Well, that didn't work. We both ate our whole bread and butter... then it continued going downhill from there lol. We were so full that we really were only able to eat a few bites of our main course and to order the dessert to go. On the bright side, we had food leftover for the...
