K & M Shish Palace — Restaurant in Auburn Hills

I have been a loyal customer of K&M Shish Palace in Auburn Hills, MI, for several years, consistently enjoying excellent food and service, whether dining in or taking out. However, my experience on September 1, 2025, was marred by an unsettling interaction with an individual who appeared to be in a managerial role.

I ordered a shish combo, which includes bread, salad, and soup, and was told it would be ready in 25 minutes. I arrived within that timeframe to pick up my order. Upon reaching home, I found the meat and vegetables were burnt and not fresh, and the bread was stale and hard, though the salad and soup were fine. I called to report the issue, and the employee I spoke with was courteous, asking me to return for a fresh order and to provide a photo of the stale bread, which was still in the bag.

When I returned to the restaurant, the individual who seemed to be in charge reacted in an unprofessional manner. He immediately began yelling, dismissing my concerns, and insisting the food was fine. He refused to listen, instead boasting about his flawless food preparation and delivery. I tried to explain that I’ve been a loyal customer and this was my first negative experience, but he continued shouting, even demanding I admit the food was fresh. He replaced the main dish but provided no bread and nearly threw the food box at me.

On my way home, I called to address his rude behavior, emphasizing that customers’ concerns should be valued. Shockingly, he accused me of being rude. This experience was a stark contrast to my past interactions with a previous staff member, Ali, who I believe was a manager and was always cordial and customer-focused. While I understand occasional food quality issues can happen, the aggressive demeanor and lack of customer centricity from this individual were unacceptable. I would share pictures but it smelled so good I immediately had to have some. Where to start... I was going to order from a different place because they were closer but they turned out to be closed... And then I found shish Palace... now I'm so happy that I choose right. I made a door dash delivery and ordered enough to take for lunch tomorrow... Little did I know the portion sizes are so refreshingly generous I ordered enough for 3 days. I love it. The grape leaves with lamb are delicious, not at all green flavored or stale like so many other places I have had. The humus was super smooth, seasoned well, and over all tasty. I can't wait to try the other flavors. The lamb kabob is killer. Super tender and paired with the perfect amount of pickled veg. Furthermore I have to say....that bread is fantastic. We had an amazing meal. Like everyone says their bread is to die for. But we also were impressed with the hummus. I've never had one with such a smooth texture and the babaganoush had a wonderful roasted flavor! Perfect. The staff and service was amazing, especially considering we went kinda close to closing time. Had good suggestions and was considerate that we wanted to split things to try more. Will definitely be coming back when there's more time to feast. Seems like it'd be great for groups.

Update: I still love this place. I wish I could give them 6 stars. We moved away but every single time we're in the area we try to come back. The only thing to watch out for is that you'll become picky because even other "good" places just don't compare. The falafel is always perfect texture here and I seriously don't know how their babaganoush is so good. It's incredible. I crave it all the time and nowhere else...
