A decent sushi restaurant in Auburn Hills near Oakland University. We came here for a double date night and had an overall good time. They have a REALLY big sushi menu and can pretty much make anything you ask them. Every order comes with miso soup and cucumber salad. The soup is good but the cucumber salad is amazing. They do not service alcohol which is disappointing since saki and Japanese beer goes so well with sushi but it's not a big deal, just worth mentioning. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The sushi chefs are friendly. The sushi came out very fat although it was fairly quiet when we went ( Wednesday evening ) and it was spring break so most college kids were probably not around. The sushi itself was good. Not amazing but not bad. The best part was the spicy rolls were actually spicy which was nice. The rest of the flavors were just average for sushi. The prices were decent so overall it was nice. There aren't any other sushi restaurants in the area I can think of but if you're willing to go to downtown Rochester or Royal Oak there are better sushi restaurants, but this far north I can't think of any. Worth a look

I remember when Makimoto opened a little over 10 years ago. It was, and still is in my opinion, the best sushi in southeast Michigan I have come across. Many of the big name places get rave reviews, but after trying many they don't hold a torch to the freshness and quality I experience here. The staff is always friendly and the owner Andy will gladly engage and even create something new to try if you ask. Though you shouldn't need to, as the options on the menu are plentiful and allow choices for every palate. Give it a try if you are in the area, and don't let the construction in the plaza deter you. This is one of the sushi gems in the area.

Best sushi in the area! They’re under new ownership since the pandemic but with the same great chefs. Friendly staff, amazing food, and a safe dining experience. We ordered nigiri, some rolls, and a beef bibimbop. We also got complimentary cucumber salad and miso soup with our meal. The fish is fresh and delicious. Salmon, tuna, yellowtail, mackerel, and ikura were all wonderful. Makimoto also has very unique and flavorful rolls. My favorite is the Raider roll loaded with avocado, salmon, shrimp, yellowtail, tuna, and topped with a spicy chili sauce and spicy mayo. So much flavor packed into that roll! Definitely a must try.

I came here for the first time for lunch and it was really busy, I was able to sit at the "Bar Area" right in front of the Sushi Chef. The wait staff were very nice and attentive to my needs. I knew exactly what I wanted to order Tempura Shrimp Roll and Miso Soup. The Miso Soup was delicious, not as salty as most would be, but just right and very flavorful too. The wait for my Sushi Roll was about 10+ minutes, which is not too bad since there were others there before me and it was a busy lunch hour. The Sushi Chef prepared my roll and handed it to me, I was a bit shocked to see how small the pieces were and it wasn't the right Tempura Shrimp that I'm used to ordering from other Sushi places, I thought maybe I ordered the wrong sushi roll, it had Fried shrimp, Rice, and Edamame (Sushi Wrap). That was it!! I guess each restaurant is different when it comes to preparing rolls. I will come back because it was a great experience, however I will definitely ask questions and study the Menu next time so I'll know what I'm getting and not feel like I was cheated out...

Very disappointed in the service. I thought with all of the positive reviews that my first experience would have been better. Customer's shouldn't be responsible for getting themselves utensils, napkins, or dishes for soy sauce, nor should they have to refill their own waters. Not once did our server stop to ask us how our food was, but we waited so long for our checks that we went to the hostess stand to get our own checks. The food was another disappointment, my dish was ordered with chicken however there was none in the bowl. After I flagged the waiter down to inform him, he took the bowl back and instead of remaking the dish, added chicken on top and brought it back. Very disappointed and will not be a repeat customer. There are far too many sushi restaurants in the area to waste time...
