A Big Cut Above Most. Going to breweries is kind of my thing, I've probably been to way too many. I find in most cities, including my own Charleston SC, that 80% of breweries are average, 10% are blech and the last 10% may be a standout. This may give you one or two truly good ones in a given city with 20-30. I didn't know what to expect from Savannah River as I passed through Augusta. As a Pils fan (the most difficult style to brew) I started with the Jackets Not Required Czech Pilsner. The flavors hit in distinct layers, finishing with the perfect hay or straw type flavor that is the hallmark of a good pils, but so rarely found. Next up was the Dynomite brown ale, another winner (I'll avoid the obvious pun that it was dynomite). We then ordered 2 flights to try the rest. Each one of their beers stood on it's own as independent and true to style, with each one having it's own palate, body, flavor and carbonation. Too often today, every beer from a particular brewery will have the same feel and flavor, with a different ingredient added to change the name of the beer; almost like the same base beer recipe is in use for all their beers. As the beertender was piling up our cases on the bar for us to bring home, the brewer Adam walked up to say hello and let us sample a new Imperial Stout that is almost ready for the taps. It was huge, rich, flavorful and without peer. Many breweries have a single standout that is good, every one of their beers is very well done. I don't say this lightly, the beer they are creating may be in the top 10 or 20 breweries in the Southeast...that's going against some...
Read moreI have been coming to this place since I moved back home. I normally write my reviews on cleanliness, quality, and customer service.
I’m a very anti social individual and not only does this place have a relaxing vibe, it’s super easy to be comfortable here. I say that to the point that I joined their mug club for this year and have not regretted it even only being able to visit a handful of times a month.
The facility and restrooms stay clean. I feel like it’s one of those topics that can only go one of two ways but from the perspective of the men’s restroom, I’ve never had a complaint.
No matter your preference of beers, they can take what you like and make a solid suggestion you will thoroughly enjoy. Very much so worth the money. I’m addition to a robust drink menu, they have since added some snacks. With them being BYOFood friendly, they have an amazing rotation of food trucks that come through and cater from the parking lot. The events that they schedule are niche sometimes but all of them that I have seen were thought out and planned pretty good.
The customer service here is what sets the atmosphere apart from other locations. Whether it’s a bartender or the owner himself, they are all super personable and will make you feel at home.
They were able to turn this homebody into a lifelong customer. Would strongly recommend as a must visit location for anyone...
Read moreI want to start off by saying the bartender Hailey was awesome and definitely the reason for the 5 star review. I visit the Savannah River Brewery atleast once a year when I come to visit family, every year I come down they have something new but last October when I was down they had a black pilsner called piercing the veil and it was by far the best beer they had on tap and canned. I was hopeful to bring more back to PA (it was a hit back home even had request to buy for friends) however, it was not available. The bartender Hailey had heard me talking about it and said they had seen cans at a local store. She even went as far (without me asking) to call the store and have them hold them for me! Talk about excellent service!
My story aside they have some really good beer and very different styles then up in PA. PA is very heavy on hazy new England IPA's but the Savannah River Brewery offered a nice selection and all had a good taste.
If your in Augusta this is...
