WOW!!! I used to live there in 1978-1981!!! the front window was my bedroom and the address was then 415 7th street!! I used to have a landlord called Jim Coombs and old Henry Dobbins who lived downstairs, they first they didnt orig. rent to women but when I got out of the Army Jim's tenants both skipped the rent, and it was due the next day. The owner then was a local Judge. So he needed the money. Augusta was pretty raw then, but it was nice there, we used to have a nice flowery tree as I sat on the rocking chair with my 12 ounce Pepsi for 25 cents!!! I miss Augusta, I had to leave when my father died in 81 many mistakes made leaving , but I also heard several years ago that the savanna river plant gave out the nuclear waste when reagon got in total deregulation and i was told by a guy who lived there that the entire city got cancer. Read moreThis visit turned out to be MUCH better than we expected.
We needed a day trip from Greenville,SC. We wanted to fly our little plane somewhere within a 1 hour flight time. We decided to fly to Augusta to visit Wilson's childhood home. The general aviation airport, KDNL was great and close to downtown.
The FBO has courtesy cars but we wanted to be away longer than they permit. We took Uber ($11.00) to the Woodrow Wilson childhood home. SO NICE. Great introductory video.! Even better personal guide. The home was in beautiful condition. We both thought we knew Wilson's background pretty well but the visit brought really interesting facts to our attention. We want to go back to Augusta and spend the night . There were some interesting hotels and bars. Highly recommend.. especially for pilots and their families.
Thank you Stephanie. ( Guide at the...
Read moreBest known for his leadership in World War I and subsequent development of the League of Nations (which became the United Nations), this home, and Augusta, is where Woodrow Wilson spent most of his formative years. This home was once the Manse for the First Presbyterian Church, of which "Tommy's" father was the Pastor. Next door was the home of Joseph Lamar, who later became an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Tommy and Joseph played baseball together as is shown on the team roster that Tommy wrote. Enlarge my photos for a closer look. The guide provided useful and helpful information and I highly recommend you inquire about the dates and times for a tour. For more reviews and pictures of other museums,...
