Giving this place the benefit of the doubt ... we had brunch here on a Thursday before noon. It wasn't too busy when we arrived. Table of four, 2 orders of Brunch House Biscuits, 1 Brunch House Platter & 1 Brunch House Benedict ... should have been simple enough to serve at the same time. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. We had a VERY long wait for our food then we were served the Benedict and 1 order of the Biscuits. We began eating assuming the rest would shortly follow, a few (or more) minutes go by and we were approached saying they ran out of the pork gravy and could not produce the other Biscuit order. She changed to a yogurt parfait and was served shortly after. Que another wait for the Brunch Platter. C'mon man. We all come from restaurant backgrounds so this was a tough pill to swallow. It's hard to understand how these meals weren't served closer together or how they didn't realize the gravy issue on the second identical order prior to serving the first.

Now, for the actual food review. The biscuits were SO dry, like the last one I literally couldn't eat because it was rock hard on the bottom and outside. The flavor of the gravy and overall taste of the biscuits (had they been fresh) were good. The Benedict looked the best of everything we ordered, I don't eat seafood so I don't personally know about the taste but our 18 year old son enjoyed it. They were out of the smoked brisket beef sausage so my husband ordered the sausage. The first set looked like hockey pucks (see photo) - dude, were you in competition with my biscuits!? They did bring him 2 more fresh slices without being asked but honestly I'd be embarrassed to serve the first one period. And, the biscuit on his plate WAS fresh, soft & edible ... so presumably I was just rather unlucky.

The staff was friendly, the vibe was good. I might give this place a second chance but it's not at the top of my...

Walking in is like a step back in time. The restaurant was built in 1960 and has retained that period look. Seating is very tight- only about 8-10 booths. Currently the counter seating is not available. This is a family owned restaurant who shines in hospitality! So incredibly kind & warm. The kind of people I wish I could just hang out with and talk to. This restaurant opened during the pandemic in February 2021 and has already made Yelps top 100 Eateries. Several things are made in house including the blueberry & strawberry syrup, biscuits from scratch and the cinnamon butter. I had their #1 seller; the salmon croquettes. Honestly I found the croquettes underwhelming in seasoning and felt they could benefit from some Old Bay, dill and lemon wedges. The diced potatoes were perfectly seasoned. I ordered poached eggs after the cook said he could do poached but they were undercooked and some of the whites were still clear. My dining companion had the chicken and waffle. Chicken is only available as dark. The waffle was big and fluffy and smelled amazing. The eggs were a winner and much to our surprise were basted, something not usually found in the south. We also tried the sweet potato pancakes which I loved with the exception of one thing- they needed to clean the flattop prior to cooking pancakes as the flavor of the other foods cooked had transferred to the pancakes. If you’re looking for fluffy pancakes these aren’t that. Instead they are dense and I found them super enjoyable sans the flavor transfer. Use your own judgement as to the location. Greene St isn’t known for being the safest area. We carried and while we were there someone was shot in a drive by on the same street 4 blocks down. Not trying to deter anyone but situational awareness...

The Brunch House started off so well for me. The atmosphere, the customer service, the food was superb!! & that is the only reason I am rating a 3 stars. I visited them when I came in to town before I decided to move here. This place was literally a staple for me and I was like once I move here this will be my go to, except the second time I visited my server got my order wrong and then tried to argue with me about it. Once my food came out she stated that I didn’t mention anything about wanting a salmon filet because she had mistakenly put in a salmon croquette. Then my sons pancakes were so doughy because they were not cooked long enough, I told them and another black lady said that because of the blueberries it was going to make the dough soft which I understand that but they were still RAW! When they asked the cook to remake the food he sounded as if he had an attitude saying “so I gotta make that order again?” And at that point I just stated that I didn’t want it because it seemed as if I was being the problem. So another man came over and was apologizing being very empathetic but the two lady’s were standing there still trying to argue, It was just too much for me at that point so my family and I left. Today when I visited with my son, the customer service was still not where it should’ve been in my eyes. My server barely payed attention to me and my shrimp and grits with added on salmon filet was about 4/10 stars. The salmon filet was like 2oz and the quality of the shrimp and grits just was not the same as when I first had it. This place was really dope all around for me and especially because it is black owned however I will not be back just it seems like the quality of my visit just keeps getting worse and worse...

I’m not sure where all of those positive reviews came from because there’s no way this place is rated close to 5 stars. Don’t visit in your nice clothes, and if you do, be sure to make sure there isn’t a giant piece of gum on your seat. Where do I even begin with this place? 1. The “homemade” lemonade tastes like water, artificial lemon flavor and a boatload of sugar. Terrible. They’re better off serving Minute Maid. 2. I’m not even confident that there was a whole piece of chicken in my chicken and waffles. I can tell you what I did have though - BREADING! I had two giant lumps of salty, deep fried breading that was so hard to cut that I nearly broke the plastic knife they gave me to eat it with. 3. The scrambled eggs were cold and tasted like powdered eggs. Gross. 4. The waffle actually had a nice flavor, but it was soggy. 5. They give you foam cups and plastic utensils for dine-in meals. 6. I got up to leave and there was a giant piece of gum on my pants. Bright orange gum! I was livid! Most of staff ran around scratching their heads and barely showed any concern. Only one person (who I assume was the acting manager that day) showed a bit of care and made a bowl of soap water as if I was going to sit there and scrub gum from the back of my calf. I didn’t have time to scrape gum from my pants, since I was on a lunch break from work. Nothing else was offered to make it right. Never going back!!
