I had to come in and add more to my review from 2 years ago, I have a selfish reason for this :) , the food is so good that I want this business to keep thriving so I wont miss out on getting great grilled items from here If you havent, I highly recommend you try Demashqi special tray, its little over $100 and has lot of variety and quantity, the owner/chef really knows how to grill, even grilled chicken is not dry or stiff, and meat/lamb kababs are really tender and full of flavor.
---- following is my review from 2 years ago How did I miss this one?? Just tried this couple of nights ago, and right after first bit into my Lamb + Beef Shawarma Sandwich that was the first thought in my head "How did I miss this one??" and today I freaked out when I got here to leave review on one of the search engines this place showed as "permenantly closed", that was apparently related to the brick-and-mortal restaraunt Al Demashqi crew started couple of years ago, which couldnt pickup pace (no-fault on their part, it was Covid related) Guys, I have been in North America for 24 years, having lived of all the places even near Dearborn MI, which has the biggest Arab population in US and so has tons of Mediterranean restraunts and quality because of the competition, this food truck is easily in top 5 places I ever ate and definitely top in Austin area by long margin. BTW, I NEVER liked any Shawarma sandwich, no matter where I tried it, what fun it is to eat meat cooked so much that is dried out, wrapped in a thin flat-bread with lettuce and taziki sauce, try Shawarma here and you will find out why it is so famous Mediterranean food, Al Demashqi's Shawarma sandwich has really tender, juicy and tasteful meat, along with grilled onion & tomotaoes, there is hint of taziki sauce, but most of the sandwich has really good quality hummus, btw meat has that Smokey taste that comes from wood grilling, I am not sure how they are doing that because its a food truck. Got Lamb-Beaf Burger for my picky eater son who never eats more than few bites out of anything, he finished more than half sandwich in one sitting and last nigth finished it all, btw the reason I am mentioning this is to tell you guys, burger was microwaved by us at least 3 times, and it was still juicy and tender, try doing that with burger from any other place
We are planning to go there tonight again, and try other options from menu as well And trust me guys , you dont know what you are missing...
Read moreSo much excellent food! The pictures don't do it justice. Kebab was made from scratch when ordered and perfectly seasoned, ground, shaped, & grilled. Lamb Shawarma, Meat Hummus, and the Gyro wrap were amazing, too. All the boxes were full, and each included a large pita. The pitas were fresh & tender, while also sturdy, with the right amount of chew. Our large order was ready before the 30-minute estimated wait time.
We will definitely be back!
Side story about Al Demashqi's Meat Hummus: At most places, meat hummus means a container/side of hummus with a small scoop of ground meat on top. So, when we opened our bags & boxes and didn't see a plastic to-go cup with a scoop of meat, we thought it was missing. I walked back to the counter and asked if it was missed. The chef told me he was sure he'd made the meat and the meal, double-checked all his surfaces for it, and then asked me to look again for the box with meat on hummus. His emphasis on meat changed what I was looking for. And he was right! Our order was correct, and there was so much meat that the hummus was buried! It looked similar to the attached picture of lamb shawarma, including pita, sauce & vegetables, but hiding under all that delicious meat was an equally large portion of delicious hummus. It was so tasty & so filling that we stuffed ourselves and still have plenty for lunch today.
All that to say: Al Demashqi didn't cut corners. The portions were all substantial. You can tell the chef takes great pride in making meals he's...
Read moreReplied to the owner: Ok guys he’s honestly just mean. I said my experience with his customer service was terrible and proceeded to call me a liar? Very unprofessional behavior. Instead of addressing the issue of terrible service. Please try somewhere elsewhere and save your money. Apparently the owner is just plain rude and mean.
I recently tried the beef kebab from this food truck, and I must say, my experience was disappointing. I was really excited to try this place,on such a hot day. Unfortunately, the food truck was positioned directly in the heat, which made waiting uncomfortable not there fault ofcourse.
To make matters worse, the person taking orders was quite rude. Before placing my order, I asked how long it would take, and he curtly replied, "20 minutes or so." I returned after about 15 minutes just to check on my order, and when I inquired again, he opened the window and said, "It'll be ready when it's ready." Then closed the there window. There was absolutely no need for that attitude; I was just trying to ensure everything was on track. Definitely very off putting and coming from a worker was not needed.
While the food was decent, the poor customer service really overshadowed my experience. I won't...
