I donât like to speak ill of small businesses, however, this is the third time I have had a poor experience at Barrettâs. I have been underwhelmed by the drip coffee every time, as well as the beans I have purchased and brewed at home.
Today, I tried the El Salvador Natural. I have had so many Naturals over the years, that I was shocked this was a Natural process coffee. To me, this was either not a natural or was poorly roasted, ground, or brewed (or a combination of all 4). Not a hint of âStrawberry Jamâ, and if by rich chocolate they mean burnt chocolate, then yes, lots of that! Itâs possible the brew could have been sitting around for too long but with that profile (burnt chocolate charcoal paper) I doubt seriously that was the issue.
To cap it off, the barista refuted my claim that it tasted burnt, and didnât offer to taste the drip coffee, apologize, or offer me anything else. I had to ask for the other drip coffee (which was marginally better). This, after I complimented her RosettaâŠ.le sighâŠShe made me wish I hadnât tipped $2 on a drip coffee.
This experience further solidified one of the biggest issues in the coffee world, and thatâs the attitude from staff (baristas) assuming customers are stupid, incorrect, or a combination of both. Iâm not going to prove my coffee bonafides to a smug barista and shouldnât have to for that matter.
This issue is aside from the fact that the coffee quality is just not good. When Iâve purchased beans from Barrettâs, I have also been completely unimpressed - silver skins all over the place, or tasting notes that were so far from the actual brewed coffee that I was shocked they were printed on the bag.
To me, this place masquerades as specialty coffee. I would rather drink Intelli or Counter Culture from the...
Read moreWe were charged for 3 tacos, we bought 2.. please check your receipts.. didn't see my receipt til I received and checked my email a little later. The woman up front was not friendly at all.. she seemed irritated when we asked about milk options.. also didn't realize she was asking me a question (she had her back turned).. she turned around and faced me and asked me the question, voice louder this time around.. we prefer smaller places like this vs large chains but we won't be going back here.. we went out of our way to visit this place.. a big let down..
UPDATE: In response to my initial review's reply: THAT is the service I expect each and every time from anywhere.. accountability!! I didn't reach out directly per se, I left a review from the receipt emailed to me.. I appreciate the reply and apology and refunding our purchase because that wasn't the purpose of my 1 star rating for service and for the service alone.. coffee and food was good.. I understand Noone is perfect, but service truly could have been better than what transpired.. being just plain rude in the customer service industry is not acceptable and that's the purpose of leaving reviews.. for businesses, big and small, to be made aware of actions like that, and hopefully can and will be corrected.. I appreciate the response and for being transparent.. that means a lot.. yall have an amazing...
Read moreHands down the best coffee beans in town. Other places may have super adventurous varieties of drinks, but this place has quality roasted beans that make way for a delicious cup of hot or cold coffees. My favorite is the iced Sunrise coffee with oat milk. You can really taste the quality of the coffee beans. I also regularly buy bags of their coffee beans to brew at home. My favorite is St. Johnâs roast, but there are plenty to choose from with details of the flavors each roast has detailed at the bottom of each bag.
I usually take my drinks to go, but have stayed here to work on things a couple times. The lighting is chill, with more natural light than anything. Plugs and wifi available. Itâs calm, with most talking happening by customers ordering or the employees talking with one another. Indoor and outdoor seating is available (but it is by a pretty high-traffic street, so I wouldnât recommend the outdoor if you need quiet/calmness) . All baristas Iâve come across have been kind. They do have some pastries and tacos for sale, but Iâve never had...
