My significant other was having surgery right there off Mopac and Far West Blvd and a nurse told me this place was very close. I went and had a combo plate of LEAN brisket and jalapeno sausage with coleslaw and beans. This is NOT a joke. I have traveled extensively in my career and have eaten just about every where. I will NEVER EVER go to this place again. The brisket was not lean but yet fatty and tough as cardboard. The sausage was not jalapeno (they said they ran out) and had no taste whatsoever. Read moreI really wanted to like this place. But...I just can't. I ordered an $11 frito pie. That's a bit much for a frito pie, but I wanted something simple and didn't want a big plate of meat. They don't put any cheese on it and it's an additional charge for that, and only a tiny cup of cheese. That's like ordering a pizza and then charging you extra for the cheese, and you only get enough to cover half the pizza. What the hell? Want jalapenos or anything else? Another charge.
So my Frito Pie, with no drink, ended up costing about $15 somehow. It wasn't bad, but there's no way I'll be returning. Just...
Read moreWe stopped here on a whim because we wanted BBQ and was not disappointed! I had both the brisket sandwich then later the turkey sandwich. The brisket was the better of the two. The flavor was goldilocks: not too spicy, not too bland. I gobbled it up. It was carefully assembled and then gave me fresh onions on the side. I loved the coleslaw and the beans. This is like and old fashioned BBQ that one would go out to some picnic grounds to have. I don't know if it is the best in Austin but it is certainly better than majors who slather on way too much...
