We just left the restaurant after having a fine experience. Wait was about 15 minutes on Friday. Once seated, there were 2 women servers for our area, and they came by the table enough times, I guess. Food was fine and basic: chocolate chip pancakes and the Java plate. When we were finished eating and waiting for the check, another server (man) noticed, and came to our table. I asked for a sweet tea to go, and the check. While we were again waiting, 1 of the original servers came by and asked if we needed anything else, I said that I just ordered a tea to go and they were going to bring it already with the check. Either she forgot or wasn’t really paying attention, but she brought out a tea (after I already had gotten it with the pay device), and she doubled back. I finished paying, and then we headed out. We were walking along the sidewalk and all of a sudden I hear someone yelling “Ma’am!,” and it was 1 of the original servers RUNNING towards me. She said that I had not paid my bill! I told her that the other male server checked me out, who had also brought me the tea. I guess she took my word for it because she said Oh okay.. (So suddenly I’m trustworthy? A second ago I was a bum b—h) And THEN the front desk lady YELLED from the open door: THERE’S A BALANCE DUE OF $3.xx!!! I could not believe that this was happening. I reiterated that the male server added my tea and checked me out, and I left the device on the table. She (original server) yelled something back to the lady still at the door, and then the door yeller replied: OKAY I WILL TAKE IT OFF! The original server apologized and said they’re using a new system. I said Okay and we walked away. I should have told her to announce to the busy restaurant that we DID NOT DINE AND DASH! And the front desk needed to tell all the remaining customers that we PAID OUR BILL, with as much volume as it took to yell at us—paying customers. They need to communicate with each other since there seems to be confusion regarding their “new system.” Not only was this whole experience incredibly insulting, it was SO embarrassing! First and last time at this place. And neither of the 2 servers acknowledged the Birthday note that was on...

Read moreOn our continued hunt for a cheap and delicious breakfast place we found ourselves at Cafe Java. We’ve taken their coffee to go many times but never fully sat down so we were very excited. The restaurant does get packed very frequently so we put ourselves on the waitlist through Google. When we arrived we were seated immediately, skipping a line of 5+ parties (it pays to prepare).
Upon sitting down we were greeted (kinda, not really) by our waitress who was very low energy and avoidant. She took our orders through a handheld device and didn’t lift her eyes up one time during the process. We ordered a corn beef hash platter, the French toast, and cinnamon rolls. Our food came out extremely quickly despite how busy the restaurant was which was nice to see.
To sum the food up: it was not good. The corn beef hash tasted like they uncanned it and grilled it for 30 seconds before plating it. The hash browns were average, the eggs a bit below. The French toast was not good, lacking any flavor or real depth to the actual bread, as well as the bacon looked crispy but somehow was not. We had very high hopes for the cinnamon rolls but were met with the laziest excuse for one we have ever seen. The roll itself is large and coated with very little icing and a ton of strawberries (why???). It tasted like a hint of cinnamon and pretty much capped off what we were feeling about the food to that point anyway.
Throughout our time there our server didn’t check on us once, not even to refill our cups of coffee. When it was time for the bill and to collect her tip was the only time she showed any real enthusiasm to come over. Maybe it was a series of unfortunate events, maybe it was an off day. Either way it’s safe to assume we will not be back to try Cafe...
