I've been going here regularly for boxing for a year and I have nothing but good things to say about this gym, the staff, and coaches. Clean facilities, plenty of equipment, relatively large training space.
The two managers/front desk staff are both good guys who care about the gym and the patrons. Thanks to them, the gym stays clean and organized and everything runs smoothly. The coaches teach good classes, they're all personable and approachable, they take time to teach technique and will pay attention in class and give individual corrections. Every time I've asked them a question they have broken it down for me and the class. If you put forth a good effort and take it seriouly they will recognize that.
I've personally never had a problem with any of the other people in the classes. There's a mix from beginners to active fighters and everyone is respectful as far as I've seen. When I was brand new I didn't have all of my partners trying to take my head off which gave me some room to breathe and actually learn. They'll still make you work for it, though, which is how it should be.
I saw a review where someone complained about the 30-day cancellation policy and all I've got to say about that is I think it's fair and it's MUCH better than any other (typical weight lifting) gym I've been to where they make it impossible to cancel. Awhile ago, I thought I had to cancel due to travel for my job and the managers were completely understanding and filed my cancellation with no issues. I ended up not traveling so I canceled the cancellation. I don't plan on leaving this gym any time soon.
I haven't done Muay Thai so I can't speak to that but I've seen them training and it seems like good stuff, too. Good coach, hard working...
Read moreGym is very average now that the Muay Thai team left. The 30-day cancellation policy is also a predatory business practice from gyms in my opinion. The over-priced classes are not worth it.
*Edit - (Because customer feedback is to be taken seriously). Thank you for your response and the enlightening definition of predatory business practices. While I appreciate your concern for my understanding of the term, I assure you that I am well-versed in its meaning and application.
It's commendable that you take reviews seriously, as customer feedback is crucial for any business. However, your dismissive tone and suggestion that I seek out other gyms, while also complimenting my potential in the industry, comes across as rather unprofessional.
I stand by my opinion that the 30-day cancellation policy is not customer-friendly and can be seen as a way to exploit consumers. This policy creates unnecessary barriers for customers who may need to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances, such as financial hardship or relocation. It also allows your gym to continue charging members who may have forgotten to cancel within the strict 30-day window, essentially profiting from their oversight.
Your response fails to address these valid concerns adequately. Instead of justifying the policy, consider implementing a more flexible and understanding approach to cancellations, which would demonstrate a genuine commitment to customer satisfaction.
Moreover, your recommendation of other Muay Thai gyms in the area, while appreciated, does not negate the issues I've raised about your own establishment. Perhaps focusing on improving your gym's practices and offerings would capitalize on your potential in...
Read moreI have been going to Black Sheep Boxing & Muay Thai for 2.5 months now. I reached out to Jeff to learn self defense, build confidence, and most importantly to protect my family. Jeffrey Meadows has an unbelievable passion for what he does. He has cultivated a community that helps advance people in their sobriety through boxing. His passion to encourage growth and development for people at rock bottom is what separates this gym from the rest.
The thought of showing up to a fighting gym for the first time made me feel a bit apprehensive. The hospitality that these guys showed me over here is second to none. You will feel welcomed, loved, and supported through your journey. If you are on the fence about coming in please let that be your deciding factor.
I have been training primarily with Josh Scales learning MMA and Muay Thai. He has helped me with my conditioning and fighting skills. He has a philosophical approach to his training (Just like his father who was my track coach as a child). I cannot say enough positive words about Josh and how enjoyable it is to train with him. Josh does a great job communicating and developing new fighters. Even though we are learning m one of the most ferocious fighting styles in the world it literally feels like recess. You have to train with him!
I have trained with Sippio a handful of times for boxing. His experience, talent, and friendly personality makes him a great coach to learn from. Even though one body punch from him could take your entire soul he is the friendliest person you can be around!
I’m looking forward to training more at BSB and would recommend anyone beginner/pro and male/female to...
