Absolutely terrible experience at Old Alley Hot Pot in Austin. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone.
We arrived right as they opened and were told it would be about a 1-hour wait — okay, fair. But while we were standing there, countless people kept getting seated before us. Reminder: they don’t take reservations, so it’s first-come, first-served… or so we thought.
After waiting over an hour, we checked in again, only to be told it would be another 30 minutes. At this point, we’ve already wasted our time. We finally ask AGAIN and are told, “Oh, there are no big tables, it’ll be close to two hours total.”
Completely disorganized and zero regard for the people actually waiting. We weren’t walk-ins coming in late — we were there when they opened. If they can’t manage their seating or communicate honestly, then they don’t deserve your time or money.

Read moreThis place right by my apartment is an Austin gem! It’s a unique and comforting atmosphere. I think this is a dining experience above the rest. As some of the other reviews stated, english is not the first language of most employees; so if this bothers you, I would find another spot. Despite this, the employees have always been kind. Employees have communicated well, met my needs, met my requests, and answered all questions. All the servers are willing to help and check on tables frequently. A feedback I would give is to ask customers if they have visited before, as the set up was explained to us on our first visit when we had stated; “We have never been here before”. Their food comes out fast. All produce and protein has been fresh on the 3 occasions my boyfriend and I have gone. it is slightly expensive, but comparable to other similar Hot pot places. You get a large portion for each...
Read moreThis Hong Kong–style hot pot restaurant is a real gem. The moment you walk in, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the playlist of 80s and 90s music instantly adds a nostalgic charm that makes the dining experience even more enjoyable.
The food itself is excellent. The soup bases are flavorful and rich, setting the perfect foundation for the meal. What really stands out is the freshness of the ingredients—everything from the meats to the vegetables is top-notch. While the prices are a bit higher compared to some other hot pot spots, the quality absolutely justifies the cost.
