Down South CaJJun Eats — Restaurant in Austin

So my best friend wanted my husband I to meet her and her aunt for a belated birthday dinner😄 I was like lets do this👊😜 So when my husband and I arrived, we saw it was kind of a sports bar type of environment. The place is okay....but we are over fifty, so walking into this place was kind of mine blowing to my husband and I. When we saw these half dress girls that have referee, tops, and little shorts. OMG🫣 Let me say I'm not judging they were all cute it's just a level of respect for a business for me. Especially when people bring their kids here😉 This place is good for your late 20s may be early 30s. We definitely would have to leave this for those age groups.🤦‍♀️ So my friend and her auntie came in after us. So we greeted and introduced everyone. So we ordered appetizers, and drinks I really have to say they had some candied yam wings that were fire.😋 Their drinks were pretty good also. My husband ordered a Long Island. I ordered a sunset, something and my best friend ordered a Margarita auntie just had water, but when it came to order our main course. My husband got the fish plate with shrimp. I got the salmon and salad. Auntie got the pork chops and dirty rice, and my best friend ordered a fish plate also. So when the food came out when I got my salad and salmon, it looked so pretty started eating it halfway through my salmon. I see that it wasn't cooked all the way, so I had her take it back. My husband liked his food. My best friend loved her food, but Auntie got her pork chop, and she told the guy to fry it hard. But he fried it qay too hard so she had to send it back. Then, when the next sport shops came out, she couldn't even cut them, so she did not enjoy her meal at all. So she sent that back also after that she didn't want anything else but we knew she didn't eat much because she was diabetic and only had some dirty rice. So my husband got her an order of wings to go. So my birthday had passed and auntie 's was coming up. So our waitress brought us out some cheesecakes with strawberries on top that look delicious. 🧀 So other than the salmon and the pork chops not being cooked very well, everything else was really good.😉 The only other thing that I would say was that the ladies' bathroom was kind of jacked up when we first walked in. We told someone they went in and cleaned it, but this place is definitely for a younger crowd. No kids after 9:00.🫣 The service was really good though, our waitress was Neriah S. She was on point. She even got in and did a line dancer two. But she really did her job. She was kind of embarrassed about the food but we told her it wasn't her fault. I would also suggest that maybe they're just having a bad night, so please don't judge them on the salmon in the pork chops, but to the cook. Just take your time. It seems like that. He must have had everything on high to try to get it out quicker. But I would rather wait longer for my food to be prepared correctly. Then, have it rushed and have to send it back.🤐 Especially when your bill is over two...

I want to start by saying every waitress (we had to flag down different ones) really tried their best and I understand it wasn’t their fault I have no complaint about them. My friends and I drove a hour to here because I saw good reviews about the atmosphere and food on Facebook. We went on Mother’s Day I was expecting it to be packed but it wasn’t many people at all. The first issue is it is HOT! When I say hot I mean HOT! The roof has like plastic covering so it makes it hotter in there then outside, kinda like a greenhouse effect. There’s fans but they were just circulating hot air so it wasn’t helpful. Myself and 1 of my 4 friends are both 8 months pregnant. We all complained about the heat the moment we walked in but for the 2 of us it was extreme discomfort and we were miserable. It was a live dj he was okay, nothing spectacular. The music went out for like 20 minutes at a point and it was just super awkward. My other 3 friends ordered shots but they all said it taste like the casamigos had water added to it. We waited a long time for our food and when we asked the waitress how much longer she said 7 minutes but it took over a hour. In total we waited almost 2 hours for our food again it wasn’t that busy. We all ordered different things I had the breakfast platter and my friends had the breakfast sandwich, chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, and I can’t remember what the last person has. After an almost 2 hour wait my food came cold and just overall wasn’t good. My tator tots were hard, the bacon was greasy and flimsy, my eggs seemed to only be seasoned with parsley because I didn’t even taste salt and pepper, my grits didn’t have seasoning either and because they were cold they were hard, the waffles were cold hard and nasty. They had a cinnamon taste that I didn’t care for which also didn’t make sense because your choice was a waffle or French toast so why have two cinnamon flavored breads? Nonetheless the only thing I liked was the sausage but it was such a small piece literally smaller than my thumb. Overall I was highly unimpressed and won’t be returning. The set up was okay but between the heat, the awful food, and the very bland music and atmosphere I’m not interested...

I have been to this restaurant 3 times now. There has of course been pros and cons that stands out. Today showed there to be a running consistency in the lack of emphasis on the service aspect. There has only been one server who seemed to be attentive and anticipate needs really well (a Hispanic male server who works sundays I am unsure of his name).

Today specifically though my family and I were seated around 12:20/12:25p. It was not incredibly busy but steady for sure. The hostess brought waters to our table about 10 minutes after being seated. She stated the waiter wouldn’t be long to get with us. There was a table of 10 and another table of 2 in our specific quadrant. We watched 3-4 different waitresses cycle between those 2 tables. No one else came to our table again for about 30 minutes. This was AFTER we’d watch one of the waitresses helping the same tables in our quadrant walk and assist a couple literally 2 minutes after being seated. At this point I had to go to the hostess stand and ask who was supposed to be at our table, this was at 1:10p. This left a bad taste especially for the fact the gratuity is automatically charged.

The food on all other visits has been great specially the grits, fried shrimp, waffles and lamb chops. Today though seem to be missing the mark across the board. My daughter and husband ordered lamb chops and they were overcooked to the point of being chewy. My husband also got a separate order of fried shrimp. My other daughter and I got fried chicken and waffles with a side of catfish. The fried chicken, shrimp and fish tasted like they were fried in old , burnt oil. We’d waited so long to eat we simply got loads of spicy ranch and hot sauce to be able to get through. The fish tasted like dirt or like it had not been effectively cleaned. I truly hope today was a one off and they were just having an off day, but I’m leery on...
