This place would’ve been 5/5 except they took advantage of my wife on my birthday. She ordered me the Batman cake they have on display. Yes, I’m a Batman fan. They end up giving my cake to the wrong person and slap together a cake with shoddy Batman logos and “bat wings” that look like brown flames versus bat wings. My wife was elated to get me this cake on my 40th birthday so she took me to see the cake. I saw her face was stunned but she didn’t want to ruin my birthday by haggling with the bakery. My wife told our nanny it wasn’t the right cake. I overheard them and pushed to have it returned. We took pics, called the store before we touched the cake to let them know it’s not right. The employees said we need ti call when the owner returns the next day. Well, the day we got the cake was my birthday, so we ate some cake (heavens bistro owner THATS ON YOU!). My wife called today and the owner has the audacity to only give us 1/2 refund since 1/2 the cake was eaten. FYI, THATS ILLEGAL! We didn’t get the product we paid for and we told you about it. I’ve worked at cafes and people returned 90% eaten pastries and we had to refund the money if the customer didn’t like the product. You can lift your nose to this owner, but I promise you we’re not buying from your shop going forward. It’s not a threat, it’s a customer’s right. To her employees who tried to hoodwink us, shame on you! The ethical compass of this place is disgusting and, now that I think about it, based on the actions of the owner it’s no wonder the employees would try and hide a mistake rather than...
Read moreWe've been on the hunt lately for great croissants and bakeries with a good selection of baked treats. I'm comparing this with the Bakery Lorraine in the Domain - I think their croissants are so light and flaky, so we went into this bakery with that in mind. We ordered an almond croissant and chocolate croissant. We also bought the croissant baguette (hadn't heard of that before now!) and a regular baguette to go. Husband had the coffee (he wasn't impressed, but he is pretty picky), and I wanted an herbal caffeine free tea - but their only option was a rooibos which I don't like. Luckily I always have some teabags with me! The croissants were very crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. My husband liked it better than me - I prefer lighter flakier croissants. The chocolate was definitely chocolatey - with the nice bitter edge that I like in my chocolate! The almond was just the right amount of paste and sugar. I wasn't a fan of the croissant baguette - very soft but tasted burnt on the outside. Not sure what I would do with it. I've had better baguettes also - central market has great ones, as does Easy Tiger, and Sanford Sourdough Bakery. Lovely little outdoor patio though - very peaceful when we went early on a Saturday. Husband preferred this bakery - but I preferred Lorraine. This one was still...
Read moreI went in to buy a cake for my sister’s birthday. We are visiting from Louisiana and I Googled the bakeries in the area prior to choosing this place. They had great reviews and the pastries looked amazing. The good customer service was scarce. Both guys literally gave me a blank stare as I walked in and neither greeted me. I figured hey it’s early maybe they weren’t fully awake yet. It was a little before 8am. I looked at all the selections available and asked about two cakes that stood out to me. He said the first one was tiramisu and then plainly said oh that one is just chocolate. Like come on, can we have a little more enthusiasm behind the products you’re selling? So I decided to get the chocolate cake and decided to skip out on purchasing anything else. After I made my purchase I said thank you and he didn’t utter a word back to me. The cake looks beautiful however the taste was lacking to say it was $65 plus tax. As a degreed pastry chef, I have to say it wasn’t worth the price and due to the poor customer service it made the experience worse. We ended up giving the rest of the cake (3/4) to the housekeeping staff...
