Walking into this restaurant, I was greeted with the aroma of fragrant herbs & spices. The host greeted me warmly and inquired of my eating preference. I was there for the buffet. It’s the only way I can enjoy Indian Food and be able to take advantage of the variety of dishes this culture has to offer.
The cuisine at IndiaGate is South Indian with a coconut & tangy flavour. The spice level of most of the dishes is perfectly balanced and tolerable. From the blend of spices, different flavors dancing on my tongue…tantalizing my tastebuds to the freshness and quality of the ingredients used and the attentive service I received, I was impressed and took my time to savor each delectable bite. The dishes that impressed me most (the ones whose name I remember) were the Chicken Tikki Masala, Chicken Biryani, Chicken Curry, Chaat, Curry Potatoes, Coconut Rice, and the Butter Naan (I usually order Garlic Naan upon being seated, but the hot, freshly prepared, soft, melt in your mouth, Butter Naan was perfectly satisfying). All the dishes were quite flavorful and delicious, I just can’t recall what they were! ☺️ Sadly, I didn’t get a chance to try the Tandoori Chicken (could not take another bite) or the Goat Curry (available on Sunday’s Buffet). To rectify this, I’m planning another visit soon.
I often skip desserts; but, the Manager made a few recommendations and I obliged…the Hot Tapioca Milk Pudding, the Raisin & Nut Laddu (I think), and the FREE Mango Lassi (my all time favorite). They were all delicious; but, a little too sweet for me. Yes, I know…I take the fun out of desserts as I prefer them “lightly sweetened”, but they are very much worth a try at this charming establishment.
In summary, I will be making another trip very soon…New Years Day, to be precise, when they host their “Grand Buffet”, to enjoy the many delectable and delightful dishes IndiaGate has to offer! What really makes this restaurant worthy of the 5 Stars I’ve given it, was the opportunity to be introduced to the chef and staff who prepared the dishes I ate. They were very humble and truly cared to know if I had enjoyed the food. That to me shows a level of pride and the appreciation that I chose to spend my time and money with their establishment.
Add IndiaGate to your list of restaurants…you can never be disappointed when you’re treated...

Read moreThis India Gate has the most authentic Indian Cuisine in Central Texas and South Texas that I’ve tasted. The Goat Biryani was outstanding! One of the best I’ve ever had and I’ve eaten biryanis all over the world. It’s well seasoned & the rice was cooked to perfection. It has a semi-gravy that is essential for a proper biryani. The Butter Chicken—also one of the best: tomatoey, tangy, slightly sweet, perfect amount of salt and smooth masala combination. The Paneer-Cashew Pulao was also great—unique to the area. The only suggestion I have about the pulao is to minimize the use whole spices, as they tend to fragment during the cooking & sharing process. Naans were fluffy & tasty. Gobi Manchurian was perfect: crunchiness, flavor and overall texture (outstanding!). The Apollo Fish was very good as well, but this was a spicier version—you can ask to reduce the green chilis. Mango Lassi was thick, rich & mangoey. The Masala Chai: Insanely Delicious, Rich and Creamy, but I need it sweeeeeet, so I was prepared by bringing my own Punjabi Shakkar (Punjabi Evaporated Cane Juice). Staff was also amazing—we were able to meet the Head Chef: Padma. Overall, popular Indian Cuisine from North to South is typically spicy & warming, so prepare your palate. NOTE: Many people in the world are allergic to certain peppers and chilies, so it’s not necessarily Indian Cuisine that can irritate the gut & bowel. What makes it worse (in the gut) is the mix of chilies & dairy, which can potentially compound any irritability. We’ll return for the buffet and do another review. Thank you India Gate for bringing so many great tastes of India to...
