Arrived at 5:30PM for dinner and drinks with a date. Rang up a $70 tab. Okay service - they were busy. Left a 17.3% tip. Closed out after finishing dinner and went up to the front to get a table outside to finish chatting over drinks with said date.
After being served 1 drink outside, our server told us we were being cut off. This is odd? I thought to myself. I've never been cutoff before. We weren't loud, obnoxious, or anywhere near causing a scene.
I had a conversation with our server questioning if they had a drink limitation? He said no they do not. But our previous server told him we drank at his table as well (inside where we had eaten our dinner). And then he proceeded to change the story saying he wasn't for sure if we had eaten or not. My date had left overs packaged up. And he's not our parents. Who cares if we had eaten previously or not? (We did) He kept changing his story and then proceeded to end it with "I'm just trying to keep my job" and that I can talk to a manager if I want to.
I let that sit for 10 minutes as we finished our ONE drink outside. He never came to check on us, we had to flag him down. Then proceeded to ask for the check and WATERS. That's right, our server, being so concerned about our consumption, never brought us waters or offered.... After the check came, I asked for a manager.
The manager (Brandy) was receptive to my compliant, but did not fix the situation. She said she did not know why they did this. She confirmed they did NOT have a hard drink limitation. She agreed that we had 0 complaints and were communicating in a reasonable, fashionable manner. She said she didn't even talk to them beforehand to get their story. Which I find odd, but her excuse was to have a "clean" perception of the situation. Did we get anything out of this rude, unexceptable behavior put on before both of Maudie's servers? We did not. I got a bunch of "I don't knows" from the manager. As a manger, you should know what's going on under your supervision.
Oh, btw both servers did not check for IDs.
Lived in South Austin for years. First time at this location.
And it will be my last.
0/10 would not recommend if you want to switch tables after you've eaten and tipped. Servers get butthurt and act unprofessional once you switch tables and no longer are under their tab. Which makes no sense, as I closed out my previous dinner & drink tab with...
Read moreThis is definitely not a 4.3 star restaurant (at the time of this writing). When you make queso from Velveeta, you should not be qualified to call yourself a restaurant. I don't even think any ingredients were added to the Velveeta (or minimally, if so) - it literally seemed like microwaved Velveeta for $8+. At least when I make my own Velveeta at home, I add some things to spice it up - tomatoes, sauteed onions, sausage, etc. The tortillas were certainly not homemade, extremely waxy (likely from extra preservatives), and just poor quality overall. Which is sad for a Tex Mex place in central Texas.. you find homemade ones at many other restaurants not far from this one. What's amazing is this place is 1 mile either direction from an HEB i.e., earth to Maudie: go buy the bakery tortillas from HEB if you're not going to make your own from scratch... they're WAY better than what y'all are serving and it's not even close. My biggest regret, besides eating here in the 1st place, is that I forgot to snap a picture of the enchiladas that were ordered (which had, you guessed it, more of the Velveeta cheese sauce thrown on top).. a picture would've said 1000 words here but 4 that immediately come to mind include "unappetizing", "sad", "gross", and "passionless." I do hope this place turns it around but, with such low food quality standards at present, I certainly won't be holding my breath.
Update: All of the 5* reviews across the board for food, atmosphere, and service on Google reviews are undoubtedly fake. It's extremely sad to see a restaurant's ownership go to the trouble to pay for or self-make fake reviews to lure customers in... the effort and money would be better spent on providing actual quality food. So so sad. And shame on you Maudie's ownership for your blatant dishonesty and attempt to...
Read moreI made the mistake of giving this place a second chance after a bad experience a year ago, and clearly, nothing has changed. My coworker and I ordered food, and not only was the order missing itemsâespecially on the enchiladasâbut we decided to let it slide. That was mistake number one. Then, as we were eating, we found a piece of hair in the food. Completely disgusted, I went back inside to address the issue, and the response I got was mortifying. The employee had an attitude, âItâs just an eyelash hair; itâs not on the other food.â I couldnât believe her lack of professionalism or concern. When I asked if she would eat food knowing it had hair in it, she brushed it off as if it wasnât a big deal On top of that, my order was missing rice, but I hadnât complained because weâd already left the restaurant and we was really hungry the rice wasnât my concern Her dismissive attitude and rude demeanor sealed the deal for me I asked for a refund and made it clear I wouldnât be coming back. Instead of showing any care, she got even more upset, which says a lot about how they handle customer service. Last year, when I didnât tip, the waiter was blatantly disrespectful about it. The only reason I didnât cuss him out was because I didnât want to be rude in front of my coworker. But seriously, when the first thing that comes out of your mouth is âoh itâs just a piece of hairâ like wha? Escuse me? She addressed me in that manner because I wasnât backing down on my refund she felt the need to come at me that way I know plenty of restaurants who wouldâve handled it differently itâs sad they havenât changed one bit food is good ngl but the management is trash like the audacity to come at...
