🔥 Hidden Gem Alert
Tucked away next to a gas station in a modest little retail center, Rose’s Kitchen is the kind of spot you might overlook. BIG mistake. This place is serving up bold, authentic Thai flavors with five-star hospitality. Trust me, you want to be in the know. Let’s dive in!
🥢 First Bite: Thai Crispy Egg Rolls ($5.99)
Three golden, house-rolled veggie-packed delights arrived at the table, piping hot and perfectly crispy. One bite in, and boom. Flaky crunch on the outside, warm, savory goodness inside. These little rolls were bursting with fresh veggies and flavor. No flimsy, greasy spring rolls here, just solid, flavorful bites of perfection.
🔥 The Main Event: Thai Green Curry ($13.99)
Brace yourself for a bowl of straight-up magic. This is Mrs. Rose’s special family recipe from Phuket, and you can taste the love in every spoonful. The rich, creamy coconut base coats your mouth with the perfect amount of heat and depth. It’s spicy, comforting, and oh-so-addictive.
I got a little picky today and swapped out the bamboo shoots, basil, and bell pepper, so my curry was loaded with eggplant, green beans, and fried tofu. The owner was beyond accommodating, helping me choose the perfect substitutions and making sure everything was just right. Talk about service!
🏡 The Vibes & The Verdict
Yes, it’s tiny, about 50 seats total. No, it’s not in a flashy location. But DO NOT let that stop you. The customer service is top-tier, the food is next-level, and the warmth of the place makes you feel like family. From the second you walk in to the last bite of your meal, you’re in good hands.
They also have a location on Menchaca, but I wanted to check out this newer spot. If you haven’t tried it yet, drop what you’re doing and GO. Seriously, go now. Support this small business, indulge in some fire Thai food, and thank me later.
✨ Final Verdict: 10/10—Will be back...
Read moreSo very good. I read about Rose's Kitchen in the Austin Chronicle a few years ago and I remember thinking... I need to try it. Forgot about it and one day driving to my husband's doctor's appointment via Google Maps... We passed it. Almost like an Oasis in the distance. Told myself to make a mental note. The day finally came and myself and a friend were able to make our way for lunch. Delicious, cute, cozy, neighborhood spot and just delightful all come to mind when describing our first experience. It is very small.. But I think that's what makes it so charming. The aroma of Thai deliciousness hits you when you enter this neighborhood gem. My friend and I ordered the Lunch Bento Box and what an amazing deal it is! You get a good size cup of the daily soup, salad with choice of dressing... We both got the Peanut Sauce... Duh... What else are you going to get at a Thai Restaurant, choice of three different appetizers, fresh fruit and entree. Perfect portion for lunch! I actually had enough of the entree... Thai Green Curry to take for tomorrow lunch. The daily soup was really good, the salad was perfect amount to feel healthy and pallet cleanser, chicken dumplings 🥟 were fried to golden perfection, green curry had a nice ratio of chicken to veggies and the fresh fruit ended my lunch perfectly. We also ordered Thai Ice Coffee and Tea. Both had the right amount of kick to it and were not overly sweet. Service was attentive and quick. Restaurant was very clean. It is a very small spot inside. I look forward to going many more times and exploring the menu more. Great first...
Read moreMy wife and I live off Slaughter and we VERY excited that a new Thai Restaurant opened in the place that used to be a pizza joint. Im a huge fan of thai spices and cuisine. The dining room is very small, maybe 7 tables. I can see this being our go to take out place. However, we wanted the full experience (and wanted to go to Romantix next door) so we dined in. We started with Thai Crispy Egg roll, Siamese cheese rolls and crab ragoon. All came out FAST and fresh. The sauces were awesome with each and they were all VERY tasty. For Dinner i go the Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodles). The nice server asked me what spice level i wanted, explaining their dishes are spicy. I told her 3. It was perfection. (think dona sauce from Taco Deli type spicy). My wife go the Pad Si-ew with Brisket. She asked for spice level 1. She loved it. Everything was fresh and tasty. The two people working the front were friendly. Overall it was a great experience. If you live south, and love Thai food, want to support LOCAL and want to get something different that the South Park Meadows stuff...this is a great...
