Firstly we came in around 9:20pm on a Friday night which on google as well as their door it stated they closed at 11pm. So like any other restaurant you would expect to be treated as if you were coming in mid day or early in the the day! However from the moment we walked in the waitress was extremely poor with her interaction with us. She literally stood at the table and stared at us with little or nothing to say at all! There was 4 other tables that had parties of 2-4 people mainly 2 though. She was so dry and made us feel as if we were bothering her! Which was uncomfortable! We discussed this amongst our table of 3 thinking maybe it’s just us maybe we were being judged off of our race or even the fact I was with my partner! But no I seen that someone left a 1 star review a few hours before I did which means I was not the only person that picked up on this vibe!
Fast forward to 10pm we were told last call is at 10:15pm which we understood to an extent however we didn’t think they’d start reaching over us and coming back and forth to check our plates to see if we were done so they can pick up the plates! Literally no excuse me or anything just came picked up the standing menu at the table an empty shot glass as well as continually asking if we wanted to pay! It was 1020pm! Why am I being rushed! Why do I feel like an uninvited guest! We had a total tab of over 150! However I honestly didn’t want to leave a tip because the waitress Shay I believe was her name according to the receipt anyways was absolutely AWFUL! You filled out the application for the job so act accordingly if you’re someone working for tips! Believe me I’ve been in that position as a server before and the service we received tonight including the amount of Staff standing at the wall staring at us as well as the other table there at 1045pm to hurry up it was so uncomfortable! Never again will I come here I’m honestly sick to my stomach for multiple reasons! I had to one chug my weak sake along with stomach the service that was received tonight! Not worth the money whatsoever! I wish I could get a refund to...
Read moreWe are avid fans of sushi, and we live in the area, but we won't be back to Sushi Bang Bang. Perhaps we caught them on a bad day, but our experience just wasn't worth the price. Service was terrible, and the sushi was inconsistent. We waited nearly an hour for a table, followed by another 45 minutes of waiting for our very first order to hit the table. Subsequent orders were delayed too, and when it was all said and done, four people trying to enjoy a lunch together spent over three hours in this restaurant. It wasn't because they were packed with people either. There were plenty of empty tables. The biggest problem was clearly the waitstaff, who were either lazy or poorly trained or both. They weren't unkind, they were just, well, not interested in taking anyone's orders. And why should they be? The place offers an "All You Can Eat" special (which cost us $75 per couple with tax and tip, without any drinks), that is obviously a bad deal for the customer from the beginning. In a normal restaurant, a waiter makes more money when a table orders more food and drinks. In this place, it doesn't matter. Once you've declared your status as an "all you can eat" customer, your bill is practically set. In the worst possible outcome, the waiters no longer "need" to care for you, and it's pretty apparent that this is the prevailing attitude at Sushi Bang Bang. Regarding the sushi, some of it was pretty good (salmon nigiri stood out) while some of it was really mediocre (most of the special rolls, with too many flavors that didn't play well with each other or got lost in excessive "sauces"). But some of it was also just plain bad: one roll had bones and a lump of uncooked inedible fish skin in it. It was pretty off-putting. At the end of the day, we can get much better sushi with MUCH BETTER service in half the time for the same price in over a dozen places in Austin. It's disappointing and I didn't want it to be true, but Sushi Bang Bang just...
Read moreFantastic hidden gem! I usually eat with me, myself and I (and an audiobook). The wait staff was attentive, but not overbearing; you don't have just one waiter, as they work as a team. Their communication was next level; I did not wait too long for any of the items I ordered off of the "AYCE" -- that's "All You Can Eat", for the people in the back. At $41 and some change with the tax included, it was BEYOND reasonable. You'll be given a pencil and two paper menus: the Kitchen Menu and the Sushi/Sashimi Menu. Off the kitchen menu, I absolutely adored the tempura scallops! They had some kind of sweet, creamy sauce with chili flakes. I probably could have lived off those, but Sushi Bang Bang believes in variety, so you are limited to only three orders of anything you order (sushi rolls excluded), and most are by the piece. The Takoyaki was very, very good (and I'm a Takoyaki snob; it's my favorite street food). The King Salmon was the weekly special. Lightly seared, it was a melt-in-your-mouth, cloud-9 bite of heaven. (I'm so full, but I almost want to go back in for another piece after talking about it!) Of the rolls, I decided to try something new, and it was new to the menu as well! The Fancy Phoenix roll. It has everything good in the world: Unagi, avocado, tempura shrimp, cucumber, and all topped with a honey cream sauce. Delectable. It is worth mentioning that I have an allergy to wasabi, and upon hearing that, they immediately took away the traditional wasabi and ginger dish and brought out one with just ginger. Of all of the sushi restaurants I've been to, this one in particular was hyper aware of my food allergy, and took very good care of me. All in all, 10/10, will come again!
Thank you for taking care of me, Sushi Bang Bang. I...
