Read moreHad to venture out, shut down too long. Saturday afternoon. Had come here last August for the first time and ate like royalty. Today, a Gray January Saturday afternoon, we’re out, okay, let’s just get lunch.
Yeah: “lunch”. Heh heh.
Started with a sip: my wife had a sangria; I had “The Ibiza,” a sweet rum cocktail in a martini glass. Italian bread and olive oil brought immediately before we’d ordered drinks.
Shared a bowl of the garlic soup and an app of the octopus, the “Pulpo Gallego.” Perfect. The texture of steak, the flavor of the sea, the spice of the the grill.
Followed this with their “Classic 75” gin & champagne cocktail because, hey, why not?
As soon as we’d decided what to get for the main course, our man described the seven (seven!) specials of the day and we had to decide all over again. She ordered the veal special, the “osso bucco,” and I had the grouper, served in a pesto sauce.
Jesus, they were delicious.
And then, it being just lunch, we took the last step of dessert. Shared the creme de menthe. She had a regular black coffee but I got the the “Spanish coffee” off the drink menu. Our man came out, and yo, hey, it’s a show! Splashed boiling water in a snifter several times, then poured in the brandy, lit it on fire (!), sprinkled cinnamon and sugar into it so sparked and flared - tableside fireworks! - then filled the glass with Baileys and kahlua. Tasted like the perfect antidote to Gray January day outside.
Yeah. “Let’s get some lunch.”
Thank you, Ibiza. A taste of light in these dark days.
Service was A+. It being afternoon, we were the only people there, so that was nice. Seemed like they’d would’ve given the same full attention to anyone else that’d shown up. When we’d gone there last summer, there’d been a large party on the patio just outside but service was...
Read moreThe food has always been great at every visit however the restaurant has been nearly empty during prior visits. Every visit I've been told they were short staffed.
We had a reservation on Valentine's Day. Unfortunately they didn't track their reservations and the restaurant capacity so the restaurant was overbooked and short staffed. I was disappointed in the way the restaurant staff handled the situation.
They were bringing in tables from the outside to seat people with a line at the front door. 90% of the tables had no food with customers waiting 😢
The guests at the table next to us had been waiting 40 minutes to order. 😢
We got up to leave and the staff tried to convince us to stay. It's disappointing that the staff and management couldn't be honest with their customers and tell them the restaurant was over booked with a short staff. Instead they continued seating more guests fully knowing that they would be waiting for an hour or longer to eat.
Instead of guests thinking wow this is such a great restaurant they are full and can't take us so we should come back! Guests experienced a restaurant that seated them knowing that they were unable to serve guests in a timely manner. Those guests had an experience that prevents them from returning.
It highlights that the restaurant is not fully staffed and unprepared to run at full or nearly full capacity.
I wish success for Ibiza but continuing to run a restaurant under staffed is a recipe for disaster. Avon Lake residents want to support their local businesses and restaurants but not when the restaurant doesn't respect guests'time.
I really hope that 02/14/2025 was a learning experience for Ibiza that leads to...
