Chokaico is a bean to bar chocolate and coffee shop located in Avon, CT. It's in the Riverdale Farms plaza which has plenty of parking. The shop is cozy and nicely decorated; I loved the coffee bean bags in the corner and so did my toddler lol. Owner, Fernando was a pleasure to converse with and he's definitely an expert with these fine treats.
They offer hot chocolate, coffee, and espresso. It's not just a chocolate shop but a coffee shop too. They also make artisanal chocolate bars with quality cacao beans. Did you know that if a cacao fruit is planted near other fruits like papaya or pineapple, it will have subtle flavors from those fruits? That's pretty awesome. They also have bars with inclusions; for example spiced mangos or pineapples.
I tried out their hot chocolate with a shot of espresso topped with chocolate and dried strawberries; it was a great pick me up. I also purchased a pack of 5 variety mini squares; there were toppings like the spiced mango and pineapple. I can taste the quality! It's a great place to visit and get some treats. I highly recommend and go support your small...
Read moreOverall - highly recommend. Five stars for the pieces that I love: 1 - the Dubai chocolate bar. I was skeptical of the price tag, but it's so complex and delicious I ended up asking my husband for another one for Easter. 2- the chocolate in general. So smooth, not too sweet, but not dried out. I feel like you often have to "chew" dark chocolate because it doesn't melt in your mouth. Not the case here at all!!
But there are items I didn't care for: 1 - the hot chocolate is too fruity for my liking (similar to the fancy naturally dried coffee beans that coffee connoisseurs love... just not my flavor pallet). 2- the dried fruit just didn't do it for me either.
Try the hot chocolate because you may love it - and they do shots of it, so you don't have to commit to a big cup! Also, ask questions!!! I was a bit lost when I went in the first time but the woman at the counter went through all the options and details about the chocolate so I could make an...
Read moreI was looking forward to trying them out. I got a scoop that they were coming to Avon. Stopped by today with kids to grab hot chocolate and a handful of chocolate cookies to try (dried fruit covered in chocolate).
The presentation was impressive—everything in the display looked beautifully crafted and tempting. However, the taste didn’t quite live up to the appearance.
The hot chocolate was decent, but significantly overpriced given its quality. Similarly, the chocolate-covered dried fruit cookies were fine, but again, the pricing felt excessive for what was ultimately an average product.
Service-wise, the staff was professional and efficient, though not particularly warm or welcoming. A smile or a friendly greeting would have gone a long way.
While the shop certainly looks appealing, the flavors and service left me feeling underwhelmed. I’d rate the overall experience a...
