I have to say first time… Last time!
I have enjoyed barbecue for many barbecue establishments, both locally and out of state I have to say heritage smokehouse, was THE! most disappointing!!
Admittedly… I had been interested in sampling their food for some time.. especially since I’ve gotten to the point in my life where, the labor of love I used to have in preparing my own smoked meats…. Feels more like a chore. But, With them changing their normal hours from strictly evenings to now offering lunch hours, I finally had the opportunity.
In looking over the menu, the first thing that jumps out is how pricey things are, but I had decided I was going to treat myself and overlook the cost.
I ordered the brisket platter with two sides and a roll and what I noticed when I got my receipt… the pricing laid out as followed $23 for the brisket and $6 for each side (menu reads $5 for sides) totaling $35. But, then you get to the subtotal section of the receipt and there is a 3% carry out service charges equaling $1.05 along with $0.05 delivery fee charge? The server Alexandra literally took it from the window of the kitchen, put it in a bag and walked it to me??
Before I leave, I look in the bag to see that there are no utensils? In asking for utensils. I am then informed by Alexandra they do not have carry out plasticware??? What carry out offering establishment doesn’t offer any type of plasticware… Not so much as a Spork!
The kicker… I get back to work open up the tray to see…. Heritage smokehouse charged me $38.28 for two slices of brisket, a handful of green beans and a mouth full of mac & cheese!?
Had I not used up my lunch break time up just to go to heritage… I would’ve taken it back and requested a refund!!!
The last thing I’ll share is… I was having a conversation with someone about my first time experience with heritage, and they asked the question, “but was it good?” My answer to them was this… “For how little I received… for what I paid for it… ,NO!… it was not good! It was nothing special about the quality or taste of it that made me say to myself… OK it was worth it.
Sadly, I cannot recommend anyone patronize this...

We got the "Ron Swanson" to split between my wife and I.
Here's how I rank things
Ribs and pork belly were the best things here. Maybe the best ribs I've eaten in my life.10/10
The brisket was great. Hands down the best brisket I've had in Maryland 9.8/10
The sausages were amazing, if you're in the mood for a sausage or kielbasa I would highly recommend. 9.5/10
The chicken was decent. It's hard for me to get excited about smoked chicken personally. It was okay. 7/10
The pulled pork... Here's the only place I was let down. I love pulled pork in general, I've eaten a lot of it so if everything here I think I had the most to compare this to. The flavor was pretty good, not the best I've ever had, but probably top 10%. Where it really let me down was the texture. To me it was over cooked. The meat was in an almost pulp-y stage. I like my pulled pork to be soft and broken down, but this was too far in my opinion. I'm being VERY nit-picky here. I would still highly recommend the pulled pork if that's what you're in the mood for. 7.5/10
The sides were really good though I didn't critique them as much 8.7/10.
Finally, we got the peanut butter pie for dessert. Holy heck! Soooo good! I would go back for this alone. 10/10
Overall I loved my experience and I cannot wait to go back!
4.6.2023 update: Still great! They had a milk braised pork shank that was phenomenal! Peanut butter pie is...
Read moreI've been putting off my visit to Heritage Smokehouse for quite some time. So, I finally made my way down there and it was a delicious experience. Not to mention I thoroughly enjoyed the 60s - 70s theme and decor of the restaurant.
My friend and I showed up at Heritage during their happy hour and was able to have a couple drinks off the menu for just $7. Heritage offers traditional cocktails such as a daiquiri, margarita, mojito, old fashion, and a caipirinha. There were also some beer selections on the happy hour menu. The bartender was nice and provided good service throughout our visit.
There were a few options on their food menu I wanted to try like the fried catfish with hush puppies and the brisket tacos, but I decided to go with straight BBQ for my first visit. I settled on the 1/4 rack ribs platter with mac & cheese, braised green beans, and I ordered an additional side of their beans. The platters arrived and I enjoyed every bite. The ribs were perfectly tender, seasoned, and fall off the bone. The mac & cheese was quite delicious, which I will say I was shocked about. And the green beans were braised to perfection. I really liked the beans which were not your traditional sweet BBQ beans, however, I would've really loved them over top of some rice.
Heritage Smokehouse lived up to my expectation and I'm already looking forward to popping in to try the...
