This review is about sustainability only! ☺️

I understand that having dishwashing services available in a marketplace this big, with this many separate vendors, can be a difficult task of coordination and financing.

But it was pretty disheartening last night to see such an incredible amount of single use plastic being used and then discarded into the trash. Just for one meal! Tables filled with food from every vendor were brimming with trash.

By 2050, our oceans will be filled with more plastic than fish. As we hopefully all know by now, over 95% of the plastic that we do “recycle” does not actually get recycled. Instead, it end up in landfills, incinerators, and our waters. Of course, this breaks down into micro plastics that are filled with chemicals which we are consuming readily.

While it is not on Belvedere Square to solve this entire global problem, it certainly is on them to try to solve it locally.

It is not normal to produce so much trash, and we didn’t used to live this way. Surely there are ways that the management of the marketplace itself can integrate at the very least a clear and thorough composting option.

That would mean compostable dishware, utensils, and cups, and an obvious receptacle for those compostables. And of course, a service to pick that up and process it back into soil.

It could also look like using real plates. I used to work at Belvedere Square, and back then, there were far more real, glass plates, being used by many of the vendors. And it was kind of on all of the employees to help sort through them and make sure each got washed by the respective vendor.

And for a very easy lift, you could also mandate or encourage that all vendors put up signage, asking people to reduce their plastic consumption by bringing in their own cups, cutlery, dishware, etc. You could even feature people on your socials who are opting to go zero waste in the midst of so many trashy options.

I know it costs money to hire dishwashers, and I know it can be a potential burden on overstretched employees to pick up plates and utensils from tables. Regardless, employees have to make the rounds to clear tables, so that clearing could include plastic trash or it could instead include reusable dishware.

Because the amount of trash created in one day here is simply unacceptable.

Especially in a waterfront city like Baltimore, how can we possibly create this much plastic trash in good conscience?

Thank you for considering my concerns. Belvedere Square is one of my favorite marketplace in Baltimore , a place I worked at for years, and a place I love to return to. I know that it’s ambience would only improve, and its positive impact on the community would soar if we could get the trash problem...

This place is like a mall food court without thr mall vibe. Great place for Thai food (Thai Landing). Hot, tasty, and hearty. Staff was nice and open to suggestion requests. We ordered:

  1. Hilo Bowl. Shrimp was a good size and servings were a reasonable size.
  2. Build Your Own Salad: They have you fill out an order slip of what you like in your salad, which is great 👍. The veggies and fruits were fresh and savory.
  3. Thai Fried Rice (added broccoli and pinapple). This was very good! With the portion size, my wife was able to each lunch and I finished off for dinner 🍽😋.
  4. Pad Tha (added chicken & shrimp): Some of the best Pad Thai I've had, besides when we vacationed in Thailand. Great taste and noodles. I asked for medium-hot, but wasn't so hot. They have general seating (inside and outside) that's shared with the other establishments and the atmosphere, as mentioned earlier, is like a mall food court. Definitely an nice place meet, eat, and even have a drink. Maybe we'll try the...

My first time visiting The Belvedere Square. My niece and I came specifically for a restaurant that serves the smoked mussels which were phenomenal! We traveled over an hour and the trip was well worth it!

The Belvedere Square is a unique shopping experience filled with a variety of restaurants offering something different from Asian cuisine to down home style county cooking.

We tried a few of the eateries. And just about everything was spot on delicious. They even have a watering hole for a wide selection of adult beverages. And I can’t forget the homemade crêpe restuarant where they offer a range of sweet and savory treats that will satisfy any sweet tooth made fresh to order.

Belvedere Square offers plenty of free parking indoor and outdoor dining spaces. We enjoyed our shopping experience, even with all the hustle and bustle of the children and families moving about it was an enjoyable day to try the unique shops available...
