Bizarre Policy Ruined What Could Have Been a Decent Breakfast
We recently tried this breakfast place, and while I really wanted to enjoy the experience, one of the most absurd policies I’ve ever encountered completely overshadowed the meal.
Let me start by saying I ordered a skillet — something that should be customizable at any decent breakfast spot. When I asked if I could get sunny side up eggs on the skillet instead of scrambled, the waitress bluntly told me they “don’t do that.” No explanation, just a hard no. I was basically told I was out of luck.
Trying to find a workaround, I read the menu and noticed they sell eggs as a side item — two eggs for $3.50. So I suggested they put the scrambled eggs on the side (instead of on the skillet) and let me order the sunny side up eggs separately, which I could then place on the skillet myself. It’s literally the same ingredients, just cooked differently.
Still, they refused.
Let that sink in: they forced me to order scrambled eggs I didn’t want and pay extra for sunny side up eggs, even though it would’ve been easier (and more logical) to just swap the eggs in the skillet to begin with. So I ended up with scrambled eggs on the side, sunny side up eggs on the side, and had to manually assemble my skillet the way any normal restaurant would’ve served it in the first place — except I paid more for the privilege.
This is hands down one of the stupidest, most customer-unfriendly policies I’ve come across at any restaurant — and I’ve eaten at a lot of them. It’s not like I was asking for lobster on a pancake. I just wanted my eggs cooked differently, and instead of accommodating a simple, reasonable request, they doubled down on a policy that made zero sense and cost me more money.
The food itself was fine. Nothing memorable, but decent. Unfortunately, that didn’t matter because the experience was overshadowed by how rigid and senseless the kitchen’s policy was.
If management ever reads this: flexibility and customer service matter — especially at a breakfast joint. People like their eggs a certain way. If you can cook them sunny side up as a side, there’s no reason you can’t put them on a skillet. Period.
Until they fix that, I won’t be back — and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who expects even basic accommodations to...
Read moreI have visited this establishment twice. The place is clean and their pies and breads are on display. The service is horrible. The place wasn’t packed and we were seated within minutes. However it took 20 minutes for a waitress to ask if we had been helped. The hostess did not tell the waitress we were seated in her area. 20 minutes goes by and finally someone asks if we had been helped. We order our drinks and said we had been ready to order food. My friends food was not written by the waitress correctly. So his hash browns were under cooked and missing onions and cheese. The food was dropped off at the table and we were not asked if there was anything else we needed. We would had asked for more coffee, or for the missing sauce that should have been with my meal or pointed out the hash browns were not cooked correctly and missing the extras. When we finally had a waitress ask how things were, she said she would remedy the situation and apologized. Well the only thing she did was request to have new hash browns made for my friend. Which she later told us that the kitchen staff failed to make a second time. When she asked them to make them again correctly.
This is the second time we visited and hoped the service would be better but unfortunately it is not. Food may be good but not good enough to deal with the lack of customer service trying to make sure the customer is receiving what they asked for. I would have loved to buy some bread or pie for our trip home but the service was so terrible we just wanted to leave.
We won’t be back a third time due to the service we received based on our experience the two times we have visited...
Read moreMy wife and I have been coming to this restaurant for several years. We drive up from Slinger Wisconsin and like visiting Baraboo and dining at Log Cabin. Always had great meals. Unfortunately, this time was quite different. Pamela seated us promptly and asked if we wanted anything to drink. When she noticed I was looking at the wine menu she said "There's no alcohol". I then wondered why the sleeve offering them was still in the drink menu. Anyway, I ordered coffee and my wife had chocolate milk. My wife ordered her usual Turkey mash potatoe bowl and I ordered the meat Loaf special for a change and chili.. Food came in about 10 minutes with the rolls and cherry bread and the waitress asked if anything else was needed. I said my chili. It should have come first and then after I finished it then the main meal. My wife liked her meal but the the chili was just OK and my mashed were dry and the gravy was pasty thick. Corn was fresh. Meat loaf was a large serving of almost cold flavorless with too many fillers meat loaf. I could of said something to our waitress but the fault is mainly with the kitchen and whoever taste tests what they serve. Besides my wife enjoyed her meal, so I figured I would take the left overs home and jazz them up the next day. I ordered a couple of slices of pie to go . I know and understand the excuses restaurants are using now for the problems they have (hard to find people, higher costs, etc.) , but you raised your prices to a fair level and had enough people working there. Now is the time for management to focus on training new and retraining old staff...
