Came here upon someone's suggestion of the place being great. Didn't have time to consider any other options, so the entire family went. I wasn't expecting much out of small place, and I was correct, unfortunately.
We must have came on a slow day, because the food was not fresh, and it didn't look like anything fresh was going to be coming out of the kitchen until we started emptying what was already there.
As another reviewer said, most of the food was dry for being out so long, which also meant most of the food was old and cold, despite sitting in the warmers.
Looking for white rice or fried rice? Check the rice warmers that are hidden next to the ice cream machine. There are spoons you use to get the rice out of there, but the way the spoons are kept looked very unsettling. Both spoons sit in separate clear containers of water. Seeing old rice float in that water makes it look very unsanitary. Knowing that same old rice might come in contact with the ones in the warmer isn't a good feeling. I'm glad I don't eat rice anymore.
After I ate the only 2 entrees I thought were good enough for consumption, I went to try the ice cream. I was excited, even relieved, that I could eat something else. I took one lick. It tasted sweet at first, but towards the end of it, it tasted kind of sour. That lead me to believe the ice cream was either past due, or my taste buds were off.
I asked a family member to try mine, since his was covered in chocolate syrup and sprinkles. He agreed that it tasted weird, and we both decided to pass on eating it. In case you're wondering, there's only one flavor: vanilla.
The waiter picked up our finished plates just fine, but he forgot to get everyone a drink. I had to share my water with someone because we thought he'd notice. He did not. Could we have asked for that missing drink? We could have, but why bother at that point.
Be aware that they'll automatically put gratuity on the check if you have a large party. The lady gave him more than what I would have.
Lastly, I always enjoy eating sour/spicy soup, but the soup here barely had anything in it. It was a little more sour to my liking, but I had to scrape the bottom of the bowl and was able to get maybe 3 things of tofu out of it. Other than that, there's just a lot of broth and eggs. Most places has tons of mushrooms, tofu, and bamboo in it.
Suggestions: Put out fresh food when you see a large group of people coming in. Not only will it impress these people, but it'll encourage them to come back knowing your food is fresh.
Have your waiter pay attention to who has a drink and who doesn't. It's his job to make sure everyone has what they need. Don't assume you got everyone and just leave it at that.
Check that ice cream machine. I, thankfully, did not get sick from any of the food, but there's something very off about that ice cream.
Put all of your rice with the main food so that customers don't have to go and look for it. Consider how those spoons just sit in that water with all the old rice floating around. That's a potential health hazard right there.
I love corn, but the way the corn sits under water in the food warmers makes it look old and dirty. Want to keep it fresh? Remove the water and just add some butter to it. It looks like someone opened up 10 cans of corn and dumped everything into the tray. Seems very lazy.
Add more stuff in your sour/spicy soup! People don't want just the broth.
I wish you the best in your business, but I will not be coming here again, nor will I be suggesting this place to anyone...
Read moreNever going here again. I ordered Chow Mein and other items. I asked over the phone while ordering if the Chow mein was a fried noodle dish. The lady said no, it was a vegetable dish. If I wanted noodles I would have to order the lo mein. But then she said actually the Chow mein did have fried noodles. I asked her if she was sure and she said yes. I picked up the order. When I get home, the Chow Mein is missing. I call and they said to come pick it up. I drive back. I talk to a man at the counter. He confirmed that I was coming to pick up the Chow Mein. I said yes. They made it and threw in some free Rangoons. When I get home, I see that the Chow mein is actually two containers. One with white rice, the other has cabbage, boiled chicken, and a starchy clear "sauce" that it's mixed in. Not at all Chow mein. On the side is a bag of "fried noodles". Really they are some overly fried egg noodles that are basically made of air and oil.
I call them back. Ask for either a refund ( for the dish, not the whole order) or have them deliver me a Chow mein with noodles. They keep trying to explain to me that lo mein is their noodle dish.
So they put me on hold and listen to the call where I placed the order. They tell me that they see why there was confusion. I once again ask for a refund. Long hold. Guy says I have to bring the food back for a refund. I ask why. He says so they can show the food to the person who took the order and explain the mistake to them. I say no, I've already been there twice. My food is getting cold and my family is eating without me. He says okay. Puts me on hold. After the phone call got past the 18 min mark, still on hold, I hang up.
A few min later the owner calls me. There's a communication breakdown. I have to explain it all over to him. He keeps saying "lo mein for lo mein, mei fun for mei fun.". At this point I'm beyond annoyed and am now arguing over a 10 dollar refund with a guy who thinks I'm saying mei fun, and am trying to rip him off. It's now 40 min after when I should have been sitting down to eat. I explain to him that his website literally has a picture of Chow mein with noodles next to the words Chow mein. I ask him for a refund multiple times to which he keeps arguing that the fried noodles are in the bag. Finnaly i get him to confirm that theres no refund. He hangs up on me midway through me talking to him.
A few min later another woman from there calls me. This is now the 4th person I've talked to in 40 min over a 10 dollar refund for a dish they first misrepresented, then forgot to give me, then argued with me about. I explain it to her. 4th time. She apologizes that they can't give me a refund.
Don't give them your business. Their food is bad, but their customer service is worse. I didn't think that was possible. They...
Read moreAn absolutely horrible restaurant experience. Probably the worst in years. We sat down to order from the menus handed to us by our waitress. She brought us water promptly. She spoke barely any English, so we pointed out the items we wanted from the paper menu. It took several repetitions of us showing her our selections on the menu. She grew frustrated, so called over her dad and manager, who does most of the cooking. I pointed out selection C1 Chicken Chow Mein. He immediately started yelling at me, "If you choose this, no return to kitchen. No bring back." I asked him to stop shouting at me. He said everybody who orders that wants to return it to the kitchen. He did not lower his voice. I told him I promised not to return it to the kitchen, even it is not good. He finally accepted my order. I have NEVER been yelled at by a restaurant employee for anything. It appears that his frustration with speaking or understanding English expresses itself in anger and shouting. This is no way to run a restaurant. We finally got our dishes, and they were delicious and very generous portions. We were very hungry from our long drive, and we devoured it. When we went up to pay, the check showed higher prices for all 3 items we had ordered. I asked why. He said the prices went up July 1 (29 days earlier), but the new menus had not yet arrived. So, I asked, why not tell us about the higher prices before we ordered? He shouted at me again, this time totally unintelligibly. But he did agree to the prices on the menu. We also did not leave a tip. Food was terrific, but the Worst experience I have ever had. Don't go without a Mandarin-fluent friend. Never going near the...
