With all the great ice cream shops (4 Cs, Smitty's, Polar Cave, CC Creamery, etc) on the Cape, how does this place stay open?
Walked in today (6-19-16) and was greeted by a tall, volleyball-ish high schooler. "Hey," she uttered at no one in particular. We inquired about a yogurt cake. You would have thought we were asking a hard question. "Uhhh, huh? No." When some people walked in behind us she took their order. Hang on. We're still here, not done. Another young lady shows up and takes my order for a small, soft-serve chocolate cone.
When I went to pay she referred me over to the volleyball lady, still at the register. I turned to hear, "That it?" Pardon me? "That it?" she repeated, just to make sure. Affirmative. "$4.02." Not "$4.02 please" or anything at all like that.
Now if my boss wouldn't price this at $3.73 for a nice round $4.00 with tax, I'd suggest one of two solutions. I propose:
a) a take-a-penny dish (keeping a lot of change around is hard for a small business) or b) give me a $1 change. Which, if done, would have been a tempting option to plop in the TIPS jar.,
Nope.
None of the above.
Volleyball lady digs out 98¢ in change, pours it into my hand and turns away. 98¢ falling into the TIPS cup wasn't going to happen today.
The ice cream, unfortunately, was horrific. Having been raised on Carvel and similar quality soft-serve ice cream, one becomes aware of what great SSIC tastes like. It tastes rich and creamy. Melts like buddhah on the tongue. Bursting with flavor.
This "ice cream" was mostly ice. Crunchy, been-in-the-freezer-for-2 years, defrosted three times ice. The chocolate was stringent tasting, barely there. A travesty in a waffle cup. Fortunately there was a lot of it, a generous serving for $4.02.
As I mentioned before, there are many great options to this place. I reco you try one soon. Not this one. Ms. Volleyball-- hope your serve is better than your service. ...
