Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery — Restaurant in Barrington Township

I had a horrible experience with ordering a custom cake for our daughter’s first birthday here. I had ordered the cake weeks in advance and received a confirmation email for my cake inquiry from their store manager. 2 days before the party I receive a phone call at 7:30am from smallcakes in which my phone rang once and no voicemail was left. I called the day before the birthday party to confirm cake pick up and they tell me my order was cancelled as it was not paid 3 days prior.

I understand if it was my fault for not realizing payment was needed 3 days prior amongst all my party planning, but what is most irritating is that they claimed to have called me and left me a voicemail about this which they did not. There was no follow-up call or email about the payment before outright cancelling my order.

We were left scrambling to find a cake a day before the party thanks to the poor way my order was handled. We had a good experience ordering a custom cake here in the past, but after this we don’t ever want to order...

Total drops of heaven!!!! Smallcakes in South Barrington makes the absolute BEST gourmet cupcakes my family has ever tasted. The cupcakes are just delicious, so moist and truly melt in your mouth. They are the perfect amount of sweetness and the ratio of cake to filling to frosting is down to an exact science! There are so many different flavors to choose from, including the specials that change frequently! The colors and design of frosting are so bright and elaborate….best of all the colors do NOT stain your face…even the BRIGHT NEON PINK!…..my kids could devour 2 without me ever knowing ;) The shop is also a perfect location in the Arboretum, very neat, clean and has a bit of a French cafe feel.

Besides the outstanding beautiful cupcakes, the employees are so helpful and thoughtful every time we come! They truly put their heart and soul into baking! Keep them coming!!! Can’t wait to try the custom...

I have now stopped in several times for their cupcakes. What I found most amazing was how consistently fresh everything is, the cake is always moist and the product is most attractive.

Considering how much more work a cupcake is to a cup of coffee, I think the prices are reasonable for a premium product. Everyone is pleasant and the store is attractive.

The next time I need to bring a hostess gift I am running over to Smallcakes on the way. One more thing, the packaging for the cupcakes is outstanding, very attractive and extremely functional.. I have taken cupcakes to others each time I stopped and the cupcakes arrive PERFECT... .Very few businesses are investing in making sure the product makes it to its final destination as beautiful as it...
