During a busy day yesterday, I found myself absolutely famished but in need of something quick to eat. Amongst the usuals, I noticed Epic Burger and thought I'd take a chance.
When I came in, I took a moment to figure out the menu and Kiara was super helpful in assisting me, making ordering quick and easy. I sat down at a super clean booth and within 5 minutes or so, Kiara kindly delivered what I could only describe as a gourmet burger in front of me.
Here's the typical issue for me. I can't eat bread and burgers are something I can eat but it can be complicated. Another well-known burger place will wrap it in lettuce, but it is absolutely messy. At Epic Burger in Barrington, my burger came out looking like I was at a 5-star restaurant. I'll do my best to explain (I would've taken a photo but I was so hungry and my mouth was faster than my mind so my hands picked up the fork and knife before they picked up my phone to take a photo)
The condiments (pickles, tomatoes, onions, cheese) were sandwiched between two patties and topped with avocado with mayonnaise neatly drizzled on top. Not only was this visually appealing, it made it incredibly easy to eat with a fork and knife as the patties held everything together, making it simple to cut everything ... it was almost like a burger with the patties as the buns lol
On top of all of this, it tasted amazing. The patties weren't overly thick, but they weren't thin either. They were cooked to perfection, and the vegetables were fresh. The option to add fresh avocado was an unexpected surprise and totally made the burger.
Kiara checked bravely checked in on me as I was devouring said burger and I thanked her for the amazing food and wonderful service. She noted the chef, who threw a thumbs up over the half-wall.
So for what was a quick stop-in to sate hunger turned out to be an uplifting experience! Epic Burger should take note from this...
Read moreFirst time trying Epic Burger since opening in Barrington. It's more my taste than Meatheads was but I cannot call it a good value. I had the Epic Turkey Burger without Epic sauce and I swapped the cheddar with pepper jack and added jalapenos.
First the positives: so glad to get a turkey burger at all and also on a whole grain bun, which is really hard to find anywhere. The lettuce was a huge piece of green leaf lettuce and it was very fresh, the cheese was real cheese, not the nasty processed type. Missed having onions, they aren't an option you can add. There was a quality tomato slice and some great kosher dill slices on it, too.
Things that need improvement: the turkey burger was White Castle thin and bone dry. It lacked flavor, too. Partially my own doing, though, since I nixed the Epic sauce. I was happy to add ketchup and mustard as I am accustomed to doing that to my poultry burgers due to being a mayonnaise-hater.
The $8.99 price tag was not worth it for what I got. Had I known in advance, I would have added the fried egg with the upcharge. Back to the positives, at least there's an option to add a fried egg. Way better than Meatheads, imo.
Skip the fries. At $6.99, the garlic Parm fries did not wow me. Small, soggy, a little cold and the sauce on it was sour. Not very garlicky either.
I sampled my husband's chocolate shake, it was nothing special. I also had a bite of the meat on his burger. Although it was also dry, it did have a good level of browning, which gave it good flavor.
It was a decent overpriced meal with friendly service and a nice atmosphere. I'm all about the food though. I won't be rushing back, but I also won't be boycotting.
I really didn't like Meatheads, its predecessor, that one I boycotted. It's definitely an improvement and now I know to skip the fries and add an egg...
Read moreFood was good as always at Epic. We have been a loyal customer in Chicago locations. It was our first time trying Barrington our new home location. The service was so bad. The guy at the registere had a very weird attitude. I asked if the menu was same as other locations because menu looked differently laid out. He said he wouldn’t know because this is the only Epic Burger he has ever seen with a snobby attitude. We got orders and trying to enjoy our food they came rotating 5 times to check on us if everything was ok. It was way too much I had to tell them to stop. The vibes at this place wasn’t epic at all which was very disappointing because this is literally one of our favorite places serve...
