Vienna Bakery — Restaurant in Barrington

The Service:

Delightful customer experience. Friendly employee greeting guests with a smile and willingness to be of assistance.

As a new customer I appreciated the employee orienting me and even seeking assistance when uncertain of the answer to my question.

The atmosphere is homely and inviting.

The Confections:

I unfortunately cannot recall the name, but the 1st dessert (from left to right) pictured below was a standout. The lightness of the filling paired perfectly with the sweetened apple and caramel compote. The “doughnut” held up perfectly and served as the ideal base providing a welcomed contrast in textures.

The pistachio cannoli wasn’t to my taste preferences. I found the filling dense and lacking in complimentary flavors. The Chocolate Cannoli had a surprise but enjoyable crunchy swirl- reminiscent of a Kit Kat if the wafers were gram crackers.

The last pastry topped with icing and almonds was executed nicely in regards to the textures and flavors- but I found it to be too sweet.

It’s no wonder that chains get so much business. Me and my fiancé went to this local bakery to enjoy a quick breakfast and to say we were disappointed is an understatement. First of all, I don’t know if they do any customer service training, but the associates behind the counter both looked miserable, and that energy rubbed off on the customers, and it tasted like it rubbed off on the food as well. We were Expecting the food to have more flavor than the local chains, or even the frozen bakery from the local grocery store. We bought $20 worth of baked goods from this bakery, and it all tasted like it was lacking flavor. Have you ever heard of sugar? This area is blessed with many excellent, small, family owned bakeries.Vienna is at the top of the list and I my only problem with it is that I have to drive 25 miles to get there, THANK GOD, because I would weigh hundreds of pounds more if I lived any closer. Everything is good but I think the birthday cakes are really special. Why buy one of those sad, chemical tasting supermarket monstrosities when you can have the best at the same price? Heavenly!!! That's what they are! I have actually made it a point to find out the birthdays of everyone I work with so I have an excuse to buy (and eat) some Vienna Bakery birthday cake at least once a month. I suggest you do this too! Remember; "stressed" spelled backwards...
