Mike's Drive-In — Restaurant in Bartow

I had high hopes for Mike Diner, particularly because my mother has been a regular customer whenever she visits town. Unfortunately, her recent experience was nothing short of disappointing, and it left a sour taste in our mouths—both figuratively and literally.

During her visit, my aunt expressed concern about the size of her chicken portion, which was notably small. Instead of addressing the issue with professionalism and courtesy, the owner’s wife responded in an unprofessional manner, accusing my family of being habitual complainers. This was not only inaccurate but also incredibly disrespectful. My mother, who is not the type to cause a scene, was unjustly categorized and treated poorly.

To add insult to injury, the owner’s wife snatched the food off the table while my mother was still eating, a blatant display of poor customer service that is simply unacceptable in any dining establishment. It’s disheartening to see someone in a managerial position respond to customer concerns with hostility rather than understanding.

Customer service should be about fostering a welcoming environment, and it seems this diner has lost its way. I strongly believe that the owner and his wife need to reassess their approach, perhaps even consider some training in etiquette and customer relations. I prefer to dine at the new and improved Mike's restaurant. The food quality at the old Mike's restaurant drive in dinner is disappointing, with chicken thighs lacking meat and legs being unusually small. Additionally, I have found hair on the chicken. The staff has been known to take food away from customers while they are still eating and respond rudely stating as "your kind is always doing this" to inquiries, causing scenes in front of other patrons. It is unacceptable to expect customers to pay for burnt and small pieces of chicken the size of a pinky the thigh pure bone and burnt. The management's wife comes across as unprofessional, making comments that seem to be motivated by a personal agenda. We’ve been going here for about a year now, and it’s unfortunate how much the quality and service has gone down hill. Went for dinner a few days ago and the food was very disappointing. They don’t even serve real mashed potatoes. You can clearly tell it’s instant mash and canned gravy. The pork had no flavor and the waiter didn’t even check back in once she dropped the food off. Didn’t ask how anything was, just took our money and walked away.
