Butch's Lobster Shack — Restaurant in Basalt

I ate here a few times this summer. I’d eaten here a lot before it closed years ago and it definitely was just as good as before. For being a restaurant in a landlocked state far from any coastlines who’s main offering is different kinds of seafood, the seafood here is great. Having been all over the east coast many times in the last few years, it reminds me of a seafood shack that you’d expect to find near some other businesses slightly behind where the sandy beaches begin, near a pier where businesses often are found along the beaches in that part of the USA. The service was terrible. We waited for 45 minutes for our food, when it finally came they told us that they were out of the Ipswich clams and asked if they could substitute them for little necks. We waited another half an hour and after I got up and checked with the waiter, because little next take no time at all to serve all you have to do is open them, he said oh we are out of those too. So we asked him what we could have that he could bring out right now and he said the bang bang shrimp and some clam chowder. The Bang Bang Shrimp was mediocre as was the chowder which was quite watery. I don't know what's going on at Butch's because the past few years they've been very good. Don’t normally write reviews but I had such a spectacular dinner with friends at Butch’s. We were visiting Aspen for the weekend and this open-air seafood joint was the perfect send off meal for a Summer weekend night.

Food was delectable all around. We tried a variety of delicious apps and soups but I specifically loved the clams casino the most. I split the shannon shrimp and Maine lobster roll as my entree and I was very happy and stuffed.

To top it off, service couldn’t have been better. Molly took care of the 8 of us and she was so attentive and helpful. The whole staff there felt like a big, fun family and Butch even popped over to our table to welcome us. Will definitely visit again next...
