Morningside Coffee House — Restaurant in Batesville

Recently ordered a cake from here, a week in advance. Not only was this the most unattractive cake that I have ever seen in my life, it was COMPLETELY wrong. I was told that they weren't sure what I wanted, so they guessed, however no one called to ask me anything. It had some kind of watery, obviously frozen strawberries (in their own water) poured out into the center in lieu of fresh strawberries dipped in chocolate. To add insult to injury, they tried to charge me for the cream frosting that was added without my having requested it which resulted in a higher priced cake. They conceded and gave me a 10% discount which basically put it back to the original price quoted to me. I picked it up at lunch and by the time I got home, after apologizing to my children for the condition of their highly anticipated birthday cake, it seems that it picked up a moldy taste, probably from sitting in that (strawberry) water all day. I had to throw it away without the first piece being eaten. I should have not paid and just walked out with no cake, because that is what my daughters got anyway. Morningside is a FANTASTIC place to hole up and study at. Being a student at the local college, it's nice to find places off-campus to study and hang out at. I am not a coffee drinker, so I can't speak on the coffee, but the quiches are AMAZING! The scones are also good and reasonably priced. Everything is made in shop, so it gives the feelings of homecooked breakfast. The environment is great, the Wi-Fi is great as well, and there are comfy spots to curl up and study in. 5/5 would totally recommend to anyone, but especially to Lyon students...

I went in on Sunday morning and had a great experience. I had a blueberry/almond/white chocolate scone and it was honestly the best scone I've ever had. Perfect texture, sweetness, everything. My drink ( iced queen bee latte) was really good too, but maybe a tad bit sweet for me. The two employees who helped me were both incredibly friendly and nice to talk to.
