Have never been to Baton Rouge; and have never been to Dang’s either. That is until now and what a pleasant surprise. Louisiana capitol building’s expansive grounds were so charming, and Dang’s Vietnamese dishes were so good; they both made us wonder where else we have been.
We ordered #3 Vietnamese Crepe Pork & Shrimp, #12 Beef Noodle Soup (pho), and #33 Pork Noodle Soup Seafood. And what a treat on all 3 dishes! They consistently had that smooth and sweet signature that felt immediately natural and craved. The pho’s brisket was meaty and tender, and together with the beef broth felt reassuring wholesome; while the pork soup with its generous portion of seafood was aromatic and irresistibly flavorful. And that Vietnamese crepe (or pancake) dish was as good as I could remember: it had a crunchy thin crust with thin slides of pork and butterflied shrimp, onions and beansprouts. The crepe came with fresh lettuce, carrot, cilantro, and a dipping fish sauce that shared that irresistible smooth and sweet taste signature.
Before our visit to the restaurant, we noticed it had 5 star rating across the board on Google Map but we were skeptical. Rarely we agreed with establishments with 5 star rating. That was rare until the first bite from Dang’s pho brisket that melt all our doubts away, once...
Read moreMy family and I have been patrons of Dang's for quite some time, yet tonight I was extremely disappointed to look up from my pho and see that an Indian family, who had arrived before I had was still waiting to be seated. I looked up again 15 minutes later, after several white and asian families of comparable size had been seated, and saw them still standing there. The host acted as though they weren't there, refusing to acknowledge them until they realized that they were not welcome and left. Not only was this an absolutely disgusting display of prejudice, but also a notable failure on the part of the management staff of Dang's, who should have made sure that the person representing their restaurant as host was fit for the position and not one to actively discriminate between patrons. This oversight indicates one of two things to me: either Dang's was incredibly lazy in their hiring process and failed to look into their employee's potential prejudice, or they simply didn't care. Either way, they have convinced me to seek my pho elsewhere. Note: I'm glad to see that several members of the family appear to have left reviews detailing their experience and hope that Dang's will take them into consideration...
Read moreI've been eating at Dang's for several years now, I've tried many other Pho spots in Baton Rouge (Actually tried Pho Cafe on S. Sherwood Forrest 2 weeks ago) and none begin to compare in the slightest measure. The food is 100% authentic Vietnamese cuisine at a very affordable price, the portions are larger than any of the other Pho spots here in baton rouge, so that you always get your fill and the service is fantastic. One of the few things I love about Dang's is it's never an issue to ask for anything, for example more bean sprouts, jalapenos or herbs for your soup, which I always do! Often the owner comes out to check up with guests to ensure the quality of the food is excellent and has even brought me and my table extra foods to taste free of charge. Dang's facility is very clean yet it has that warm home type of feeling that cannot be achieved through anything but genuinely friendly staff and food cooked with love. I bring all my out of state and international friends to Dang's when here in Baton Rouge and it's always a win! I will always recommend Dang's and will continue eating there for as long as they are around.
Keep doing a...
