Let me say, I've eaten from here before and it was completely different. This was the first time I sat in. We were the only ones in the restaurant so we were seated immediately. We were sat at the first table in the area. The table next to us hadn't been bussed and it looked like it had been sitting like that for a while. It stayed like that for more than half of our meal.
It was evident that the waitress didn't speak English well so we were speaking slowly and clearly. We ordered 3 different rolls and all of us had the same reaction, that it wasn't the same and tasted better the last time. I didn't even take pictures and I always take pictures of my food! I also ordered steak and chicken hibachi because I was hungry. When she brought it the first time it was just steak. I told her I had ordered steak and chicken but I don't want another plate. I'm just going to finish my sushi. She didn't make eye contact and took it back to the kitchen. When she came out again, I told her I didn't want another plate. She went back in the kitchen. She came back out and did some other things around the restaurant. She went back to the kitchen and came out with another plate. I told her I didn't want it and she said the chef already made it.
I knew based on the way my sushi tasted that I didn't want anything else. So I went and spoke with who I think is the owner or manager, an older lady. I told her what happened and she said the waitress didn't speak English well and that they would have to pay for it because that was their policy. I was very nice and I told her I was sorry for the confusion and she said she would take it off the ticket. She spoke another language to the waitress and she walked away. The waitress came back to the table several times to try to explain that it wasn't her fault and showed me her tips for the day. I couldn't really understand her but it seemed like she was saying it wasn't her fault and she was going to have to pay for it so that would come from her tips for the day. We paid for our checks and she followed us outside and did th whole explanation thing again and pretty much demanded a tip. We gave it to her and left.
It was a mess. I heard that there's a new chef, which explains why the food wasn't the same but I don't think I'll be...
Read moreReserved a hibachi table on a Friday evening to celebrate my wife's birthday. Was told to come in for 7:30PM, as there was a large party before us that would not allow the staff to be ready any earlier than that. We arrived at 7:30PM and were told now that it would be 40 minutes until the next chef would be able to serve us.
What the issue is, is that they only have ONE hibachi chef working the hibachi room (that has 8 grill tables) on a Friday night. They could never possibly accommodate more than 2 tables PER EVENING with a single chef, who supposedly must prepare the proteins according to the guests' selections. This is not a proper Japanese grill, despite offering Miso soup, and ginger salad dressing. They are not prepared to serve more than a dozen clients, and it appears the Ginza/Kamado's portion of the restaurant is to sate the local clientele's appetite for trendy raw fish, or something like it. I would not advise potential diners to get their hopes up. Gone are the days of Koto's etc. You cannot expect to enjoy a hibachi grill table experience here.
Having voiced my extreme disappointment at the experience, I will say that the young hostess that served us was very embarrassed and apologetic for the situation. We were provided small spring rolls and edamame as some consolation for the wait, but we still never had a grill chef, as the food was prepared out-of-sight in the kitchen and brought to us at the grill table. No complaints with the food, but the experience of what we were expecting was omitted.
To offer a solution to the problem I've described: fix the management to assure they can count. Large groups of diners = hire more chefs. Otherwise, don't pretend to be a restaurant serving Japanese hibachi grill cuisine. ...
Read moreEDIT AS OF 10/31/18: Customer service was awful tonight. The sashimi that came out on the sushi boats tasted both lackluster and fishy (especially the yellowtail). Rolls were not adequately assembled; they fell apart with minimum chopstick manipulation. They messed up our shrimp tempura appetizer and only brought out one shrimp from the getgo. Turns out that the the owner had brought out the replacement shrimp and had given it to the sushi staff. She did admit this mistake, and they have removed this item from our bill. The waitress's service was lacking tonight as well, especially in terms of refilling our drinks and lately providing us with the proper plates for soy sauce and the rolls. She did give us a lot of pickled ginger as requested, so she had that going for her. But even the pickled ginger tasted a bit sourer than normal. Unfortunately, tonight's visit has permanently soured my ratings of this facility to a one star. You guys dropped the ball incredibly hard.
OLD REVIEW: Generous portions and non-fishy taste for their sashimi dinners. Ginza roll is actually my favorite because it is flavor packed with excellent cuts of fish and balanced by just the right amount of rice. I found my new favorite sushi restaurant in all of Baton Rouge. Finally, the sauce that comes out with the tempura is what a proper tempura sauce should taste like. Hints of finely pureed ginger and garlic to add refreshment to the palate for a standard...
