There is an abundance of places to eat sushi and Baton Rouge, and this restaurant won't disappoint. The menu is varied without being overwhelming. The appetizers and soups are found almost anywhere, but there are some off menu items if you know what to order. (Since it's not on the menu, I will not give away secrets that the business may not want to be public knowledge. I feel that an item my friend ordered is not on the menu for a reason - but it was good!)
I typically judge a sushi restaurant on the raw rolls offered. Too many places cater to people who will only eat cooked sushi, in my opinion. Wahada has a good selection of common and popular raw rolls.
My party ordered pan-fried pork gyoza, seaweed salad, edamame, miso soup, and many rolls both cooked and raw. Nothing we had was disappointing. The only possible criticism I had was the fact that I did not receive as much wasabi as I would have liked. I took my friend's, though, as she does not eat it.
If you like hot sake, I would suggest it. I am not sure of the brand they use, but I enjoyed it. There was a slightly sweet finish. The establishment also has the big Sapporo bottles!
The service was very good. Our waiter got busy toward the end of our meal, but he took good care of us. The atmosphere there is not blowing anyone away, I think. There are certainly more romantic places. The painted sky on the ceiling, though, is always interesting. I would say that this place is great for casual dining or with friends, but not for special events that leave an impression. The price is certainly...
Read moreThe place is gross. The bathrooms look like they haven’t been cleaned since pre-COVID, the air vents are black with filth blowing over the fish storage and prep station, and the person making sushi was playing on his phone and wiping his maskless face with the same gloves he was touching the fish with. The only reason I ate the food was because I’d been on the road for way too long sans protein & another man came out with fresh gloves to make my food. The energy in the building was not good and I felt anxious just sitting at a table. The sushi was not awful. I assume the good ratings are from college kids. On the flip side, everyone that eats here often probably has a good immune system. That’s one way to...
Read moreSo I had been coming here since 2007. I thought the place was closed but recently discovered they are still hanging on. Let me tell you.... If you want ornate wall decor, intimate atmosphere, amazing views, fancy plate garnish, and a premium price to go with it all... Then head over to Ichiban or Tsunami. But if you want a no nonsense dining experience with the freshest, cleanest, and most flavorful sushi Baton Rouge has to offer at an extremely reasonable price... Don't sleep on Wahada Restaurant.
This whole sushi lunch special came with a bowl of miso soup for just $13.
If you don't know that sushi is not supposed to taste fishy, get over here and see what you've been...
