I have dined at Bay Diner several times in the past year or two. I never really had any issues before but my most recent trip was definitely subpar. I usually order their lunch items and they have always been well made and tasty. I love their tater tots. When we arrived the diner was relatively busy but that was totally understandable and expected on a Friday morning. However the hostess was immediately rude and dismissive. She made no eye contact. She just grabbed menus so we just followed her to a table in the back. I watched her begin to lay out the menus onto the table. I saw her look at relatively large puddle of spilled pop, presumably from the previous patron. When she noticed it she quickly placed a menu ontop of it to cover the puddle instead of wiping it with the rag that she already had in her hand. I promptly picked the menu back up to call attention to the puddle of pop and the now pop soaked menu. She was very annoyed and rolled her eyes when I picked it up. She said nothing, she just picked up the menu and walked away. I ended up wiping the table while she took the menu back. Our waitress wasn't much better. She made zero eye contact and she was very obviously annoyed with ANY request my senior parents made. It is worth noting that my parent are extremely polite to wait staff because they both started off in the service industry. None of us felt welcome or very happy. After ordering we waited for our food and barely talked because we were all feeling rather off put. When our food arrived my parents waffles were both cold. She butter wasn't even slightly melting. The waffles were also extremely dry and my parents had to keep using more syrup. The bacon and eggs were good enough. I wish I stuck with lunch menu items. The waitress just dropped the check in front of my father and walked away. It was the first time in 30 years that he only tipped the recommended amount. Their lunch menu items are good. Their breakfast was rather subpar and disappointing. Most importantly Bay Diner should really teach their staff basic manners and respect towards their patrons. We may have just experienced a bad server and waitress but I think everyone should be treated with polite and professional at the very least, especially senior patrons. I don't think I will be returning for...
Read moreFirst of all the location is great. Parking is ample and safe and they are in a nice suberbanite plazza. Unfortunately the above paragraph is the only thing I have good to say about this place. I am one who ussually likes to spend money to help independent family resterants but not this place at all . There service and attitude is horrible. There food is very mediocre. There priceses are outradgeouis with nothing but there location to almost justify there high priceses. There food is not only mediocre in quality and cooking but less then decent in portion size espectually for what they charge. They have a no shareing policy wich they have no business enforcing unless they would offer an all u can eat deel in which it would be ok on that deel in specific but not regular purchased items. For instance a couple ;who ordered 2 separate ontreys was charged extra just becouse one took a French fry off of there spouses plate. The waitress approached them and sed u now r going to be charged extra becouse we Have a no shareing policy. There priceses are to high to begin with and they have no business telling someone what to do with food that they as a customer are paying for. It WAS NOT an all u could eat French fry deel so the couple should have had the rite to share and it should have been none if the resterants concern. If the waitress chooses to enforce such an un fair policy she is lucky if the customer even tips her at all. I love coffee and was very disappointed that thete coffee was like to be expected at a cheap dinner in the gheto. There are plenty of good places to eat and there is no reason to waste money or time here. They charge too much they have poor service mediocre food and bad coffee and an unfair airegent policy of charging extra just becouse someone gives a French fry to...
Read moreGood American breakfast. We have just moved here and visited a couple of times. It’s a great close by no-frills option for people in Bay Village / Westlake. Today, however, we grabbed a Protein Shake and an Americano from another place before stopping by at Bay Diner. Turned out, they wouldn’t allow us in, even though their menu clearly is not designed to make money with drinks (while the other place is clearly not designed to make money with breakfast... so not even a real competitor). Eventually, they stayed adamant to not have us seated because of drinks that they don’t even serve. Considering an expected breakfast bill over $25-30 and the fact that their coffee is sold for $1.99, that sounds like a lose-lose for everybody. I’m sure we could’ve made up for the missed $1.99 by tipping a little more generously or just buying that coffee in addition to the drinks we already had... it’s certainly not about avoiding „costs“, but about supplementing my breakfast with things they simply do not offer. Hopefully, they will think about a more customer-friendly way to deal with preferences that are not tooooo unusual. Maybe just offer your own protein shakes, smoothies, espresso and put that on the menu or be more lenient with non-competitive add-ons that people may want to combine with their breakfast. Again, it’s a great cozy spot and overall a fun place to be in...
