We came today with our family with 6 kids age ranging 10-1 years of age, so you can expect a little bit more work for the waitress. We always tip well and being that I used to be a waitress for many years, we always make sure to help clean up our table, condense checks and make things easier where we can. After we came for a quick couple entrés to share but mainly came for family dessert, we left with a bill that said it costed us $8 for a stack of plates to share our food when we were offered these plates without warning of any extra fees. It’s less about the fee itself and more about the sneakiness of tacking on a price most likely because they felt skimped that not all of us adults ordered a full meal. We also waited almost an hour for our small order and many tables that were seated after us had their food quite quickly. Though our waitress was sweet, we were not impressed.

Visited the Pickled Herring for a late lunch/early dinner before an Apostle Islands cruise, since it was right across the street from the docks and rated pretty well. It's definitely a fun place to relax and have a drink or a full meal. I ordered the Hugo Spritz and it was exactly what I was looking for in a cocktail....light and crisp. I ordered the fish sandwich so I could try the local Lake Superior white fish. Blackened was a good choice for how it was cooked. Flaky and juicy...delicious. ibopted for the sweet potato wedges as a side, and wow, were they good and a generous serving. I think I ate the equivalent of two medium sweet potatoes in one sitting...lol. everything tasted great and the staff were very friendly. The dinner seating overlooks Lake Superior, always a plus, and their bar area looks like a fun vibe, too. I would come back. Thanks!

We had a large party with two dogs. We asked to sit outside and got seated right away. Our service was great and everything came out timely and fresh. I had whitefish tacos and fries. It was great. My son had the whitefish poyboy and he loved it. The view was nice. There was another party that had a dog that was mixed with pit. They had a hard time controlling the dog. The restaurant should have asked them to take better control of the dog because it made for moments that we thought the dog was going to get loose and attack our dogs.

Nice selection of food and drinks...if only they brought what was ordered. First, my chardonnay came as a glass of bubbly Prosecco. Our water glasses and drink glasses sat empty for far too long multiple times. The other couple we were traveling with ordered the Pickled Herring appetizer...and it never made its way to our table. Two people ordered the same meal and one came with a breadstick and one did not. Super inconsistent.

Our friend ordered a ribeye and it was overcooked and inedible due to the excessive (yes, we are aware it is supposed to be a fattier cut of meat) fat and condition of the steak. Our server was initially apologetic but then another older server came over to explain the nature of a ribeye without ever apologizing or owning the situation. She finally said she would "see what she could do" and then ignored our table the rest of the night. Our friends were ultimately charged the full value of the meal for a plate that was taken away with a few bites off it. Once we had made a complaint, our table was all but forgotten for the rest of the night.

Instead of asking us if we wanted another round of drinks or dessert, they just brought the check and dropped it at our table without any eye contact. We walked right up the road and took our business to The Copper Trout and enjoyed attentive service, delicious after dinner drinks and their outstanding desserts. We wish we would have just started there in the first place.

If you're looking for a great place to eat in Bayfield, check out THE COPPER TROUT. We have had several meals there and both the food and service has never...

I don’t often leave reviews but after our experience I really felt the need to document what happened. We were excited to find a dog friendly place in a great location of town. There was a wait so we got a buzzer and walked around a bit while we waited. 40 ish minutes later our buzzer went off and we promptly walked back to the restaurant. We were seated at a table on the deck. The host said he was going to look for a kid menu for our toddler and would be back. While we waited we got our selves and the dog situated, looked at the menu and I got some activities out to keep the kiddo entertained. The host came back some minutes later and said that he made a mistake and that another group needed our table. We were super confused as we had waited a while and also been at the table for at least 5 minutes. The host said the other group had been waiting as long as we had. My impression is he told them they could have the table after they complained enough. He said we could sit on the barstools but with a dog and toddler that wasn’t appealing to us. Nor was the idea of being pushed to the side, no longer having a table and having to watch another group enjoy the spot we were just kicked out of. So we left and ended up at another dog friendly spot with better service and great fish.

We are all human and mistakes happen but the restaurant should have better policies to deal with staff errors other than forcing one party to leave a table that they had...

What would have been 1 STAR turned into a 5. We arrived on Friday evening of Apple Fest. We had read online that they had a dog friendly porch. There were tables out on the porch that were taken, some tables empty. My husband asked could we arrange to have a table on the porch because we had our pups with. The young man with a beard said “no the deck is closed” (yet there were people on the deck and it was only around 7pm) “we don’t serve out there”. My husband said, to him we had read the deck was dog friendly. The guy at reception was not overtly rude, but literally shrugged his shoulders and said I don’t care. You could tell he didn’t want to help. So we left with a bad opinion of this establishment…..Later in the weekend we spoke with someone who recommended this place for eating with dogs, so we decided to give it another shot. We called in advance and asked do you allow dogs? The woman on the phone said “yes, on our patio, there is no service out there but you’re welcome to make a take out order at the bar and eat it on the deck”…so we did, and the fish fry was fantastic! So we ultimately left with a “good taste in our mouth”. We got a totally different vibe from the...
