UPDATE: EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS LOVELY! THE FOOD PREP WAS GREAT. AGAIN I REPEAT, EVERYTHING CHANGED. GOOD JOB MAMA ROSA. The owner was lovely and everyone was smiling. Good vibes! I won't say what I ordered because I shouldn't be eating sweets with my new diet. Thank you Mama Rosa for your lovely service today 😊
My old review.... I dislike giving bad reviews therefore this review is from my observation for a year of dining in several times. If you are not caucasian as soon as you enter be prepared to be met with a much louder and aggressive "How can I help you?" matched with a condesceding look. The other white patrons are greeted in person and they walk out to them to ask what they need. I have ignored their greetings because I feel they are just ignorant in the area of service and when I eat here it is a choice I make because it is convenient. However, when it comes to cleanliness and serving food I can no longer hold my tongue. My review is from observing them for more than a year. I ordered take out recently and again I am concerned about the training of staff in the area of service. I ordered pizza, carrot cake, and red velvet cake on a different occasion. My disappointment is their lack of hygiene and their management of food for the past few months with the girls. They touch everything with their bare hands. I had to ask the staff not to touch my food with her hands and suggested she use thongs to move the slices to the oven. Watching her remove the wax paper on a different occasion from the cake with her hands and then proceed to use her hands to place the cake in the box was horrifying to watch. She immediately told me that whatever she touched will "burn off" in the oven. She is also working the cash register and credit cards. "Lots of germs" and cross contamination. Please do better. In her defense she did use thongs after I expressed my concern. A PD course in food preparation, and customer service is greatly needed for the current staff. This town is multicultural and all patrons should be treated...
Read moreI used to love Mama Rosa. They used to be around the corner from me and I was in there often. I did my best to support them after their location burned down.
I called and placed an order based on the menu advertised on their website. For some reason, the total was an extra $4. $10 for pasta, and $12 for a small pie (10.50) with sausage (+1.50) should be $22. Instead my total before tip came to $26 and change.
My mom called to get clarity on the price and they said that the prices on their website are old prices and the prices have changed (false advertisement) an then said the pizza is $14 (11.50 for the pizza and $2.50 for the topping). That's still only $24 dollars. She said the remaining amount was sales tax. I'm not sure when sales tax on pizza became a separate charge. However, 7% sales tax on $24 still brings the total to under $26 ($25.63). This means they're charging more than state sales tax in general. (The state sales tax isn't even 7% anymore, I'm giving the benefit of rounding here.)
Their website ordering system uses the "old" prices but then charges a $3 delivery charge which is why I called in my order because I'm tired of food apps charging delivery fees and service fees making my order nearly double the price, and still ended up paying the same amount with the excuse that the prices on the website are "old prices that haven't been updated."
This really is a shame when this place was a go to when they were in my neighborhood, and we tried to do what we could to support them through their struggle with location as well as through COVID.
I will not be ordering again.
Edit: the extra missing $1 was a charge for using my card to pay which was not assessed on their website ordering system and I was not informed about this. My mom was not told about this charge when she asked for the bill to be...
Read moreI have been buying from Mama Rosa for over than 10 years now since they were on 33rd street and I always a big fan of them and never go nowhere else but unfortunate lately they are became horrible and specially this female manager works there. Today and specifically today’s experience is what forced me to put this review. I have order a buffalo pie and specifically said “thick not a thin pie” and a Sicilian slice. When I got home with the order I found the following. Chicken tastes leftover from yesterday, extra thin pie and the Sicilian came with a burned black crust. I called over discussing the thin/thick issue, and apparently my request never made its way to the notes of the order. A month ago I ordered a white pie with garlic and olive and I found two olive pits in the pizza. Lucky I didn’t chip a tooth and as a loyal customer I went to this very same female manager gave her in her hand the pits and I told her, nothing wrong happen. This is my place and I hate to see you guys getting sued, please be careful with the next customer but guess what, I was wrong. I should have made a big deal out of that because this place is getting worse and worse every time I order. This should be the last time I order from this place but I decide to leave this mark so every single person read reviews,...
