A friend of mine was telling me about this fabulous (Roti) shop in Baytown, Tx., he was telling me about the taste, the flavors, the savory foods that this place had, so he said, "you wanna come with?" he was telling me his mom had sent him on an errand to get some of this authentic wonderful Caribbean (Trinidad) comfort food he had so desired, from my location, the Pasadena Tx. area, it was about a 20 min drive but as I later found out a well worth drive, Me being the food connoisseur, I was eager to indulge into this new food experience I was about to encounter, as we pulled up to this small but quaint location, I could smell the aromatic air as if I was on a exotic island near all the local eateries, the menu choices were hard to choose from cause I wanted to try them all, I settled on the boneless curry chicken roti, some fried plantains and some beef patties, (a wonderful pastry dough filled with chicken or beef similar to an empanada), I also got a banana flavored soft drink which was surprisingly pretty good, they also have oxtails which will be my choice on my next visit, other items on the menu are saltfish, goat, fried fish, fried shrimp, and other dishes including a variety of soft drinks from the islands, I will recommend you go at least two hours before they close because the food being this good they do start running out getting closer to closing time. When I arrived home I opened this massive round burrito looking package of goodness, as I went in for a bite of this culinary piece of art, my mouth began watering (as it is right now writing about this lol) the Burst! of flavor that exploded in my mouth as I bit into it was amazing and full spices I have never encountered, halfway through this curry chicken and potato and carrots filled piece of heaven, I decided to save the other half for later but that didn't last long I just wanted to finish this mission I volunteered for and lay back for a long siesta because I wasn't moving from this couch anytime soon. So if you find yourself wanting to experience a little piece of the islands take a nice little drive to Baytown and get you some of this great...

Read moreOn Saturday January 28,2023. I had the opportunity to visit and try out some delicious food from Asha’s for the first time. I did as recommended from some reviews and the website by (calling in my order). I ordered some doubles with and out hot/spicy sauce (or pepper sauce for those that know Trini ting). To my surprise the lady on the phone asked if I’d like “tamarind sauce?” That was and immediate yes. I then ordered two oxtails, one with steamed vegetables and one with curry potatoes (no plantains were available yet). The person from Asha’s recommended a 15mins pickup time. Well I got to shop before the time given and it was a good thing. I had a NOSTALGIC feeling right away. Like I was in TnT. I was the lone customer (all 5 parking spaces to myself for the closing. I did park and I walked straight up to the order window. To my surprise there was more in the shop to see to my delight than on the menu. I was like a kid at the candy shop. By the time I made my order the next customer arrived and asked, “Did you leave anything?”
Long story cut short recommendations and feedback. PROS: Call and order first before noon Get that doubles with the tamarind and pepper sauce. The OXTAIL and PELAU (rice and beans) was HEAVENLY….. I would suggest washing it down with sorrel juice. Additional parking in the lot next door Seating best for dry conditions Food is HOT and freshly prepared Reach the time they recommend (specifically if you’re hungry or in a rush) Value for money
CONS: Doubles was a tad salty and not huge (but very tasty) Don’t go to seat and eat in wet or cold weather
Summary
Everyone home loved the food and we can’t wait to get OXTAILS again and try other things...
