Read moreI visited LBI Labor Day weekend and was really looking forward to this place after hearing they make homemade ice cream and more natural. So I thought it would be a safer choice. Unfortunately, I was mistaken. I asked about their ice cream sandwiches and what kind of cookie was used for the key lime pie sandwich and was told it was chocolate chip. Not what I expected (I thought they would pair it with a graham cracker cookie), but I was ok with it since I like chocolate chip. The girl at the register handed me the ice cream sandwich which was completely wrapped/packaged. It was hard to open and it would have been nice if she offered to cut it open since I was eating it there. I was extremely disappointed with the taste and quality. The cookie tasted like a vanilla sugar cookie, not chocolate chip like the girl at the register told me, and it was raw. It might have been baked about a quarter of the time it should have been. I normally like cookie dough, but this didn’t even taste good. The ice cream didn’t taste good either. The picture of the card is what was packaged with the ice cream sandwich. They didn’t separate the ingredients of the cookie from the ice cream, but either way the ingredients were not good and I was disappointed with a place that seems to promote “home made”, “fresh”, and gives the impression of natural ingredients. It doesn’t seem any different from getting the cheapest ice cream at a big grocery store or gas station. I hope...
Read moreWooHoo has an electronic ice cream flavor menu that you would think is easy to update. After I ordered and waited a minute or two, I was told “we are out of that flavor”, I ordered a second flavor choice, also listed on the electronic menu. After again waiting, I was told “we are out of that flavor” . My third selection was available, and I watched as the server had quite a difficult time adding the second scoop to my two scoop cone order. The second scoop kept falling off. After a few more attempts, the server was able to balance the second scoop, but as she lifted up the cone from the ice cream tub area, the second scoop fell off and I was served, with a shrug, that I interpreted as “that was the best I could do”. I was charged for two scoops and served a cone with ultimately less ice cream than what was on my wife’s single scoop cone. It’s not about the price, it is all about service. After tasting the ice cream, my assumption is that due to a very “icy” texture on what should have been a creamy ice cream texture, it was quite challenging to get the two scoops to stick together. So who was at fault….the person who made the batch of ice cream? The server? Both. As a member of a family who has lived on LBI for 5 generations, I understand the difficulty getting Summer help, and never set the bar high in anticipation of great Summer LBI service, but I think WooHoo should try a...
