My wife and I ate breakfast at Marmalade yesterday with some friends and had a very poor experience unfortunately. The friends we were there with own a vacation rental in Beaufort and suggested we all go here. The Avocado toast has a tomato jam on it that tasted like cold pizza sauce. When our friend approached the owners about not being able to eat it they proceeded to yell and berate her like she had done something to them. Her request was simply to have an order of plain toast in place of the Avocado toast so she could make her own sandwich out of the egg and bacon she ordered. The man working there yelled so loud at our friend we could hear them from the front dining room. The owner of Marmalade did approach us later and gave several excuses for their poor behavior saying that they are understaffed (it didn't seem that way based on the small amount of customers in there at the time we were) and having problems with the toaster. She offered a very shallow apology. She kept saying, "I'm sorry but, we are understaffed", and "I'm sorry but, our toast keeps coming out overdone". I'm sorry never needs to be followed by a "but". To top off her weak apology she walked away saying very condescendingly, "enjoy the rest of your visit" like we were tourists invading her town. It was so bad that a lady eating next to us came over after the owner left and said, "I don't know what happened initially to you but that was certainly no apology". Overall it was one of the worst customer experiences we've had.
The rest of the food wasn't great either. My French Toast was very bland. I wouldn't recommend Marmalade to anyone and I know our friends are no longer recommending it to people vacationing...
Read moreYâall, I am in love! Visited this bakery yesterday on a rainy Saturday morning and am already excited to visit again. From the second I opened the front door, I felt like I stepped into my favorite comfort novel. A quaint historical home remodeled to perfection without losing any of its original charm. The bakery selection was so extensive and all of it looked delicious! I tried the lemon blueberry pound cake and my husband had a bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel. I said it tasted just like my mommaâs and he decided it topped every Brooklyn bagel from back home. From a southern woman and a Brooklyn guy, this is the equivalent to multiple Michelin stars âïž!
What was most impressive though was the staff! With it being a rainy weekend morning in July, it was obviously very busy. The staff worked very well as a team and did an amazing job. I was shocked by how fast they completed our order. Not every patron was kind to the staff because of the long line, but the employees were the epitome of customer service and handled everyone with a welcoming smiling!
Thank you for adding to the wonderfulness of our town Marmaladeâs! See you...
Read moreThe quiches with a side of grits was delicious and filling. However, the avocado toast with bacon tomato jam was really really bad. Tasted like a smoky pasta sauce with a really undercooked slimy egg. They did not skimp on the avocado though. But really just became a soggy unappealing mess. In fact, we passed a table of 5 women on the way to the trash who had the same experience and threw two full orders away. So IMO the avocado toast should be removed or changed. The establishment itself is also a little congested. That being said, the pastries did look out of this world. And Iâll still be back...
